IT's better than just ok. IT's wonderful and I have never gravitated to this kind of music / opera. I've always thought "too many notes.", over-the-top... A great story, performance and emotion. Thanks very much.

This Handel had a lot of guts to use English for something like his. That's modernity: the break with tradition and the politicization of everything.

I think it was nothing to do with politics: English was the obvious language as Handel was based in England. The words were taken from the English bible and the religious motivation was clear. Plus the performance was charitable done to help debtors (and thus indirectly Handel himself.) We have a miraculous piece of work as a result - that is known about these days by everyone including the homeless, as this video shows! The fact it was in English is part of what has made it so accessible. This is a joyous video! Cheer up Eeyore! Merry Christmas!
