Advent Calendar December 2 "Reindeer Under The Northern Lights," By Adrien Mauduit
Breathtaking Footage From Norwegian Lapland
(For Paula.)
“In an effort to deliver out of the box footage, I decided to spend a few nights following a reindeer herd in the fjords of northern Norway near Tromsø. Wildlife cinematography comes with its load of challenges during the day so try it at night! You need specialized equipment, a lot of knowledge, a bit of luck, and especially patience. In this mini-documentary, you can see what reindeer do at night: eat, rest, play, ruminate, fight and establish themselves within the herd for mating... I was lucky to get most of these behaviors in the video, like never captured before as the aurora danced in the sky. By using different focal lengths and letting the curious animals come to me rather than approach them (none were disturbed during the shooting), I feel like I was really able to capture the essence of their routine at night. I was even lucky to find moose that posed for me against the starry background! If you want to know about the gear, the process of scouting and filming + BTS tips, consider becoming a member at https://www.buymeacoffee.com/nightlights where I have written a blog post about it. The short film also features a few sequences taken in real-time, accelerated real-time, S&Q (sony) and timelapses of the winter wonderland and extremely beautiful landscapes we have have in Arctic Norway in the past weeks. All content is of course copyrighted Night Lights Films (except for the sountracks, which was licensed through Artlist and EpidemicSound (See credits at the end). Therefore, no footage can be used in any way without the author’s permission.”

Adrien on AI Aurora, sadly on the rise. I just became a supporter of his work.
Thank you so much for your unique introductions to life-affirming content along with the sobering reality of man-made destruction. The balance is very much appreciated..
Here is something completely different that everyone might also appreciate. It's on YouTube channel Tom and titled "Russian ArK (Alexander Sokurov, 2002) [EN-FR-PT-SP-FI-SV-]". This is a film which was made with one continuous live take in the Russian Hermitage Museum which involved 2000 actors and showed 300 years of Russian history.
Thank you for all your efforts-time, energy and money. The short film is wonderful!
