“In response to China's pineapple ban on 1 March 2021, Japan imported a record 6,000 tons of Taiwanese pineapples.[309] On 28 April, Abe tweeted a photo of himself with five pineapples. Within five hours it went viral with 694,000 likes, 2,055 quote tweets, and 119,000 retweets.[309] Taiwanese President Tsai Ing-wen responded in Japanese saying she would send more pineapples anytime.[309]”

I don’t know how to process this one. Guns and assassinations in Japan don’t compute. I made my Japanese heritage a safe space, as silly as that seems. My experiences there all so lovely, peaceful and polite. This news makes me so sad. I know they’re there, but I just can’t bring myself to go down those rabbit holes yet.
This feels very strange without having Japanese heritage. As soon as I heard about it last night, it seemed really weird. There is little doubt that we will continue witnessing weirdness in this very weird time. I am finding that in people's behaviour regularly now. On the other hand, I continue to find kindness unexpectedly regularly, too, and others wanting to connect as much as I do. Heads up, everybody, for the weirdness and the kindness...
