Former CIA head of counter-intelligence James Angleton once used the T.S. Eliot phrase "wilderness of mirrors" to describe the field of "espionage." Today it feels very much like "wilderness of mirrors" is an apt description for the combination of all of our modern information systems. The "layers of deception" that were once the hallmark of intelligence operations - have now simply become our - "new normal" - in a post-modern/post-reality world in which we never know when we have reached "firm ground" in our search for "truth" - or have simply reached - "the next layer of lies."

I too had difficulty, as it appears many others did, watching "Winston." I gave it a few minutes because of Liz, but then had to stop.

As for the "successful, oh-so-brilliant" woman in the middle chair, I hear you, Celia. Came across "her" so many times over the years. There are zillions like her -- or at least striving to be like her -- in the world of business where I spent my life.

There are so many things to say, but what can be said exactly? A global shit show. I guess one thing I could reiterate: I hope that this "show" has proven beyond doubt that "health officials" are exactly the opposite of what they purport to be -- and they are not our friends. Repeat after me -- "Health officials are not our friends. Health officials are not our friends. Health officials are not our friends." 𝑵𝒐𝒏𝒆 of them -- anywhere -- are our friends.
