Actually, those pirates reached as far as Sicily (they had a penchant for islands, right?). There is also the story of Droctulf, a führer of the Longobards (a Dane?) who attacked the Christian Empire in Northern Italy, and then converted and fought against the Barbarian invaders.
The connection with postmodern thinkers (all extremely afraid of HIV and CoV-19, by the way) is that they love stories from the Middle Ages (high and lower), specially the Nominalism of Abelard, and his troubled love story with Heloise. It's all an attack on Christianity, of course. I think professor Michael Jones commented on these topics once, in the context of how pop music is meant to corrupt people and attack the faith.
