What????!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Tex’s Word Game
I was once asked by Tex McCrary, who was my father’s tough as nails mentor and first boss in radio, what my favorite word was. This was in the 1990s. Tex asked this question of most people, and he wanted both the word’s meaning, resonance, and mood. It took me weeks to realize what my favorite word was:
”Father.”
That was my favorite word.
Tex’s favorite word, as everybody who knew him knew, was “Yonder.”
One of these days, we’ll talk about Tex.
(Kevin McCrary, did I get it right?)
Please excuse me for being wobbly today. It rooted in a sense of a loss of “lens” and not knowing if I am perceiving well, as too much is happening at once. Or no, maybe that’s not it. Maybe it’s that good, seemingly miraculous things are happening and it’s disorienting.
Let’s all enjoy the evening.
I want to wish all the fathers reading this, as well as the stepfathers, (and the fathers to animals,) a very Happy Father’s Day.
Thank you all for being here, and staying.
In the Rogan interview RFK choked back tears twice: when Rogan asked him how he could persist, like Sisyphus, with all the opposition over the years and he said his trials were nothing compared to those of parents with vaccine injured children; and then again when he described his Dad’s funeral train. RFK, Jr. has faced profound life challenges. He has struggled, and he knows what it means to suffer. I see a man who has deep empathy and humility... and I really like him. He’s not presidential, he’s human.
This made me laugh, I've watched it more than once today. Imagine having someone in the White House who has a sense of humor about himself, who is this down to earth and quietly funny and reasonable. I haven't been able to comfortably watch any of the presidents speaking since probably Bill Clinton, not without cringing, waiting for the next gaffe, grimacing at the fakeness and bad teleprompter reading, etc . On a personal level I would just love for this to be the man on the news clips, and to be able to listen to the president speaking without embarrassment, for once.
