if my cat sees me picking up an electrical extension cord, a length of rope, or even a dangly new shoelace fresh out of wrapper, my cat appears to go on high alert as if scared, and i always wonder: is this behavior because the sinuous shape of the electric cord, rope, and shoelace reminds my cat instinctively of the danger of a snake.
i intend to try that with my cats ... quietly unbeknownst to my nibbling kitty, i'll place a cuke on the floor behind her ... and watch what happens then ... like in the video u mentioned.
both my dog and the cats react like that on newly fallen branches! the old ones they seem to recognize but after a storm they are cautious and sometimes I see them jump when thehy encounter an unknown branch.
Interesting. When my Maine Coon, Maverick, was 14 he was bitten by a cottonmouth on one of his front paws. Vet said it was obviously a mature adult, meaning lots of venom, because of the bite marks. Also said another 1/2 hour or so and Maverick wouldn’t have made it. He made it to twenty 😺. Just lost him to old age a few months ago. Sure do miss that big fluff ball.
I think I was once a cat as I seem to be able to communicate with them. They give me hours of amusement and their purr whilst sitting on my lap calms me down. Amazing sentient beings the creator graced us with. I love doggos too, oh, I love any animal...😁😁
I find it so hard to describe that which makes cats unique among animals. I like dogs; I do. But cats...
My husband, he's a dog guy. Always had dogs. Didn't like cats. 1991 my father (widower) gets a kitten. The cutest kitten I'd ever seen. This little angel was actually 𝒑𝒓𝒆𝒕𝒕𝒚. About three months after he got her, my father has a heart attack and passes away. We "inherit" his kitten. My husband, I know, is not crazy about this, but...
You know how this ends.
Seventeen years later when our precious furry friend went to kitty heaven, my former US Navy SEAL husband cried like I've never seen him cry before or since -- not even for his mother -- and he admitted, "I didn't cry that much over my mother!!" Heels of his palms over his eyes to try to stop the tears. Sobbing.
Was years before he could talk about her without tearing up. She was his first and (our) last feline furry friend. She was my precious girl, as I called her, and hubs says he just can't go through that again...the dog guy.
I once witnessed a pair of blue jays dive-bomb and strike at the head of an eastern racer as it repeatedly attempted to ascend a jack-pine and make its way towards their nest- only to be sent to the ground each time by their well coordinated attacks, and ultimately chased away into the underbrush.
(no cats involved in the mix of this particular fracas - I can only imagine...)
Love the fearless cat! I have to confess though that your worms have been on my mind. The world is in peril and I’m wondering how your worms are doing. I can’t explain that.
Between snakes:
Snake 1: Are we poisonous?
Snake 2: I don’t know. Why?
Snake 1: I just bit my lip.
Stolen from Reader’s Digest 😁

That’s the brain doing just what it was designed to do. Dr Jordan Peterson once described it quite well.
I think a saw a video once of a cat reacting to a cucumber similarly…..very funny

Mine does the same but I have noticed that most cats seem to react to anything snakelike even if it is inanimate. It must be an instinct.

God, I love cats!
Me, too! They’re the best. I’ve found that ppl who don’t like cats, it’s because they don’t know them.
I do too!

Cats are the ultimate Ninjas

Creepy, but amazing. I hope the cat left the scene.
