It is one of the most beautiful and thought provoking contemporary Christmas songs ever written. I can say I had the privilege of knowing Mark in college (and one other Gaither Vocal band member Guy Penrod who was my wife's singing partner in college - he and I were dorm mates - lots of fond fun memories - and oh the music I was privy too.) And I am glad that you and your friend have found comfort and joy in their music. They are some of the best humans around.
Yes - the singing team that my wife was on in college was called the Sounds of Liberty. The men from the team were all housed in my dorm (which wasn't very big) - Guy and I would ride around in his old Cutlass 88 tank/car and discuss our future plans - he couldn't decide on music ministry or being a pastor - glad he chose the correct path. He is/was hysterical and one of that nicest fellows on the planet. I have had a such a bizarre life journey with some of the most interesting encounters in my previous life chasing academia at Liberty/Yale/UVA.
Andrew, that is really cool and interesting. I would love to hear more about Mark and Guy. The Gaithers and their associates are a Southern Gospel legacy and were always a powerful spiritual experience in concert. My mother-in-law was a gospel singer in the early days of Southern Gospel and got to know Bill and his groups back before he met Gloria and they teamed up.
So Guy and I were in a small dorm together at Liberty U. My wife was his singing partner on a group called the Sounds of Liberty and she has even more stories about him. But he was a fun loving - down to earth undergrad. I used to ride around with him in his old junker car that he had driven from NM to VA and discuss life, the universe and everything else. During college Mark was in a horrific traffic accident with some other singers who were traveling to churches to perform - almost died. He was just a naturally funny guy and all around nice person. He just had a knack for telling stories - family stories, church stories and making them funny. That's neat about your mother-in-law. As a teen the Gaither Trio (with Bill, Gloria and Gary McSpadden) was one of my favorite groups.
wow. A miracle I guess that Mark was not killed. Yes, he really likes to goof on Bill, and its good that they enjoy some humor, that makes people relax. I really liked Guy's talent as well, and I was part of a video production crew that put out a live concert with Russ Taff and band, as you know, another part of that great quartet.
Funny guy! He just now won the Lapsed Catholic Seal of Approval (yeah, only a 1-0 vote, but it's a win). Wishing all Happy Hybrid Holydays... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X-J4O-6hANU

Andrew, Guy Penrod was your dorm mate? That's incredible!

Thank you, Celia.
Clay Aiken's version has always been my favorite, but this one is stunning!
That was wonderful. ❤️
