Celia how wonderful to listen to this chant on Christmas night in a caravan (trailer) a few blocks from the beach in southern Australia. If I step outside I can hear the surf. The coming year may be hard and bring more of the unexpected but God willing, there will be more moments like this. Bless you.
Holiday blessings to you, Celia. Sending you all of God's love, strength, protection, courage and excellent health. Thank you so much for all of your wonderful thoughts, sharing your feelings and your heart. May 2023 bring each of us into a healing circle of divine power and Light.
I have always loved the purity of the harmonies in sacred choral music, from the early chants, through Victoria, Byrd, the amazing Palestrina and of course Tallis with his stunning 40-part motet Spem in Alium (among other flights of genius like O Nata Lux). The sincerity of the spiritual expression is reflected in these compelling harmonies and, for me, they are a fitting prelude to worship.
There is music that speaks to the mind and music that speaks to the soul. I pity those who never get past music that speaks only to the body.
I am new to this thread and was drawn to your comment because I want to learn more about the music that you reference. Would you kindly find some YouTube links that would give me a glimpse into your musical experience? Thank you and Merry Christmas!
