My favorite stone/rock/mineraloid is Shungite. It is found in ONLY one place on earth - Karelia, Russia. Thank you for posting this. It's wonderful to hear some music from that region of the world! Love, hugs, and PERSEVERE yall!

Love it! I love instrumental music so much. This type reminds me a lot of a modern discographic invention called "early Reainassance music." Who knows how that old music sound! Maybe they took this far removed music from Karelia as inspiration.

Finnish side of Karelia?

Co-ordinates ,please!

5th track 'yemini he' -is more like it -(one that ends in laughter) - 6th is also older,

-Sibelius' Karelia Suite kind of imprinted- but the roots are fascinating- although they are singing in the tempered tuning of west ,which tonality they might have used is really a fascinating study-.Microtonality - has been ditched for digitality- making the Ottoman study of a plethora of scales (from Marocco to Westernmost China) -often lifelong.. obsolete.Kinda the big deal at the time.

That's really beautiful. My ear was having difficulty identifying the instruments, which was intriguing. Thank you.

Thank you Celia! I’ve always wanted to travel the world and felt I took a little journey to Karelia. I love Shungite too and wear my necklace almost daily so thank you Kelly.

let's go together. I have no friends in Sweden who will even talk to me about my deep wish to visit Karelia. In fact, the painful and not funny truth is that…I no longer have any "friends in Sweden."

Well, no, I have one. Two. They're new.

But yes, Karelia hugely underestimated and full of mystery. One might say I have a small "obsession" yet I don't know "why." I LOVE Karelian folk music. Drove my son mad when he was growing up. Have you heard the Karelian Folk Music Ensemble? They're amazing.

(Mourning) Black becomes white -from Montenegro- and changes all shades the further east - till weddings in Afghanistan used to approach ( before) traditionally green as celebratory .Black in North China is a celebratory color closer to virtue ..

I dreamed once of doing a thousand weddings and funerals from MNE to China to study this..

The 'Black Madonna' closely understood by Gujarat Roma in Serbia ,balkans.

The instrumentation and sound has much in common with Gaelic/Celtic to this untrained ear.
