Many people could not watch The Cricket In Times Square as it was blocked in several countries for copyright issues. So here’s a different one for today—a documentary I like a lot from Canadian TV, 1978, about the Sami in Norway. I may have published it before, possibly last year.
The Sami clothes are as unexpected as they are breathtaking. The one time I made it to Lapland, (in Sweden) my guide was a Sami man named Stefan. I wanted to buy the classic Sami cap with the giant red pop pom on top but he would not let me; Since I’m a woman, I had to buy the bonnet instead.
In any case, we’re not supposed to be bringing Sami garments out of Lapland.
We can just enjoy looking at them on film.
(Seems like we have become the Norwegian Lapland channel, I know…)
My ancestry is mostly with the Sami fishermen in Inari, with some Norwegians intermarried...
