I'd *love* to go with you to Karelia! (Though it won't happen.) Karelia does indeed have some gorgeous music. I played accordion for the Finnish folkdance performance group in D.C. for years, and when my stepson married a Finn, I played three of the Finns' favorite tunes for their wedding celebration in Helsinki: the gorgeous waltz Metzäkukkia, the wild Säkkijärven Polkka, and lastly Heili Karjalasta, about the beautiful women in Karelia. In this last, I was caught completely off guard by the entire hall bursting into song — I'd always played it for dancing, and never heard it sung. I was fortunate not to be reading music — I was so moved my eyes teared up. A simple version of my playing that tune is at http://dickatlee.com/music/dick/sound/heili_karjalasta.mp3, and a wonderful rendition by a real Finn on a chromatic accordion is at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m6YkS9hsjkc. Wonderful tune, hard not to start dancing!
In Finland, just as in the Ukraine, the top strata are powered by white powder. The fuel takes care of the results. Just wait till Finland gets its five dozen F-35.
How fascinating. I can hear a bit of a medieval sounding air in the first piece, that reminds me a little of say Christopher Hogwood and his Ancient Academy--except the melody is far richer. Karelia--I had to look up on the map. It is a bit of synchronicity because I am reading Vol. 2 of the Gulag and he begins with Solovetsky Island and I am guessing that is in Karelia--if my memory of the map is correct. I would definitely go!
Yes shungite heaven, I sleep with a large ball of it. Only thing I know about Karelia. Until now. Traveling right now is not possible, maybe the future?
That’s where all the shungite is. Supposedly a large asteroid crashed into Karelia a few hundred thousand years ago (maybe it was millions - what’s an extra zero or two?) and all of this carbonated rock found a new home. When the Homo sapiens showed up the discovered its healing power as well as its use as a water purifier. And now it’s used for EMF protection.
BTW - the people there seem very pure and simple. I’d love to join you there some day 🍻
I'd love to go! You should recount the history of Karelia. Used to be Finland before the Russians took it in 1939, just like they are trying to take our Ukraine today. It was far away and of little interest to the democracies, which had (very legitimate) other worries at the time.
Putin has shown what dictators can get away with. Now it is Venezuela's Maduro taking Guiana's Essequibo. Would not have happened five years ago. Who's next?
I want to come with you and I am a nobody. I have traveled North America extensively, and only a very little of Western Europe which is my heritage. I am interested in visiting Scandanavia.
Well being it't likely NATO put a target on their backs and they are literally the borders of Finland and Russia it's understandable their reluctance. However I'm sure many would be happy to make the trip, so keep looking and it seems now might be the time.
I noticed another video on the side "Ulla Katajavuori (1909-2001) - Grand Lady of Kantele", which is quite amazing too. I've not got to the end which is apparently Silent Night “Stille Nacht"

Thank you!
No wonder it sounds somewhat like Russian music to me.
Can't believe Finland went and joined Hato NATO, a bunch of fools.
I'll go with you to Karelia

Yup, too much snow in the nostrils and all in vein

You have to fly to Karelia from Istanbul, as for the first time since World War Two, the border between Finland and Russia is closed.

You'll bring it back when you go,,,we'll be here when you return
We all have different cultural taste, and in music, do we not? :-)
Beautiful!

You can have plenty of traveling companions. Just don't forget to write!

I was just referencing that phrase. Certainly no plans to move to Jerusalem.
