Those of you who are new to The Truth Barrier…We have a tradition (an actual tradition!) that begins today.
Now in its third year, our Advent Calendar is simply a Christmas themed (loosely speaking) post on each day beginning Dec 1 and ending Dec 25.
We’re kicking it off with a beloved choir that recently changed its name, singing Isaac Watts’ Joy To The World. (Lyrics at bottom)
Here’s an article explaining why The Mormon Tabernacle Choir became, in 2018, The Tabernacle Choir.
“We’re not changing a name. We’re correcting a name,” Nelson said.
I read it, and I understand. But I still miss the old name: The Mormon Tabernacle Choir.
(It’s ok, we’ll get used to it.)
"Joy to the World" is an English Christmas carol. It was written in 1719 by the English minister and hymnwriter Isaac Watts, and its lyrics are a Christian reinterpretation of Psalm 98. The carol is usually sung to an 1848 arrangement by the American composer Lowell Mason.
Since the 20th century, "Joy to the World" has been the most-published Christmas hymn in North America.[1]

Joy to the world, the Lord is come
Let Earth receive her King
Let every heart prepare Him room
And Heaven and nature sing
And Heaven and nature sing
And Heaven, and Heaven, and nature sing
Joy to the Earth, the Savior reigns
Let all their songs employ
While fields and floods, rocks, hills and plains
Repeat the sounding joy
Repeat the sounding joy
Repeat, repeat, the sounding joy
He rules the world with truth and grace
And makes the nations prove
The glories of His righteousness
And wonders of His love
And wonders of His love
And wonders, wonders, of His love
Joy to the world, the Lord is come
Let Earth receive her King
Let every heart prepare Him room
And Heaven and nature sing
(And Heaven and nature sing)
And Heaven and nature sing
(And Heaven and nature sing)
And Heaven, and Heaven, and nature sing
And Heaven, and Heaven, and nature sing
Joy to the world, the Lord is come
Let Earth receive her King
Let every heart prepare Him room
And Heaven and nature sing
(And Heaven and nature sing)
And Heaven and nature sing
(And Heaven and nature sing)
And Heaven, and Heaven, and nature sing
And Heaven, and Heaven, and nature sing
I'll be singing and playing this song tomorrow at my church for Saturday afternoon worship. Our teacher this weekend Ric requested this song and I will oblige. Blessings to you Celia and to all who read this post.
A dark wood stereo console- that very recording - and my mother setting the stylus down...
