Thank you so very much for sharing your journey with Lewis. My cat Cleo lies on my legs and she loves the story too, as she feels it rising up through my body. When I was weeping not long ago due to some bad news she came flying across the room, landed on my chest, put. her paws around my neck and put her face to mine. How grateful I am to be loved like that!

You and Lewis, what a love story.

Mammals are muy sympatico; our darling dog Pig the Pig Dog, who passed last year, knew immediately when people needed comforting. We went to eat with friends and they had invited a recently widowed friend of theirs to join us. Young woman, hit hard. We were outside when she arrived, and Pig immediately went to the garden gate as she came in, then sat with her as we ate. I miss that dog like nobody's business, though we have consolation in the form of one of his puppies, Bear. Bear missed his dad for weeks after he died. We all did.

Thank you for this miraculous, joyous, heartwarming news, Celia!!!

I think you will appreciate this poignant piece by Naomi Wolf if you haven’t yet read it:

https://naomiwolf.substack.com/p/what-is-a-miracle

I personally hesitate to put kitties through the trauma of treatment (unless it’s something easily operable and hasn’t yet metastasized so there’s minimal intrusion) and try to accept the natural progression of life to death as long as there is no suffering involved. That is what happened with our first only-child kitty, and it is still so heartrending more than a decade later that my husband and I cannot speak about it, but I am grateful we let nature take its course and he was able to transition peacefully, surrounded by love.

Oh, Celia, this is such good news! I'm glad Margaret Anna Alice shared Naomi Wolf's post, as I, too, found that especially poignant. And hurray for connecting with Amandha Vollmer! I just discovered her today and found her amazingly provocative--not only on the whole subject of germ theory vs. terrain theory, but also on the matter of addiction to "news" at the expense of taking care of business in our own lives. There's much to ponder there, and I wonder if your journey with Lewis might relate to that. I so honor your process with this, I'm thrilled to hear that Lewis is better, I love the photo of Lewis and Jack, and I continue to hold all of you in my heart. Love and blessings. 💕💫💐🦋

Celia, have you read Nora Lenz's book on how to feed your dog/cat?? I think you'd enjoy it. She has followed natural hygiene principles, it looks like with great success.

It's quite obvious God loves Lewis so much He let you two meet. He blesses me every day with horses, pups and cats; not to mention wildlife and the rest of His creation!

My mom had, at different times, two cats “at death’s door.” One fell four stories and fractured his pelvis in several places. She patiently nursed him back to health, when the vet said it was impossible. That cat lived another 11 years (another lifetime for many cats), dying when he was 18. The other cat was indeed terminal. My mom watched his last moments. She described the experience as both overwhelming and beautiful. Whatever happens, I hope you have a net positive experience.

That's beautiful news!

For the heavily cerebral among us, learning to listen to the wisdom of the body is a very nourishing experience. And cats are great teachers in this regard, when we are ready for what they have to share.

Firefly, the younger (10 months old) of our two black cats, went missing a couple of days ago. My younger daughter, Isabella, went looking for her with Noko, our other cat. They did not find her, so Isabella returned. It was late, cold and dark. Noko stayed out and pushed on alone. He returned at about 01:30 with Firefly. I find this an amazing story; it says so much to me about the intelligence of all God's creatures and that we still have much to learn from them.

It's these 'little' events, experiences, journeys, moments, that have true value.

Toby, this is incredibly happiness inducing, thank you for sharing this utterly magical story! Give the loyal, steadfast, heroic Noko and hug and a kiss, Isabella as well, and tell Firefly he (she?) is very loved but please don't do this again, as all our nerves are maxed out! I wonder if we should turn this place into a cat blog, nothing else.

Annette and I have been in her mother's studio flat in Harrogate, a spa town in Yorkshire, for just over a week. We were watching a (bad) movie when the news of Firefly's (female) disappearance came it. We had to stop watching the movie and just wait, and pray, and fall asleep. We return tomorrow to Leeds and yes, Noko is due much hugging, not that he'll enjoy it! He's very gentlemanly, except when no one's watching and he chases butterflies and bumblebees like a kitten.

(Apparently, Firefly has just come on heat and was running up and down our street yowling for a tom. We know of a shaggy ginger tom who prowls Noko's Kingdom from time to time, so perhaps we can expect black and orange kittens some day soon. That would be wonderful.)

Annette wanted me to tell you the story of Gertrude's hyperactive thyroid.

Annette was diagnosed with hyperthyroidism (500% over normal range) months after Isabella was born. According to the specialist in Berlin, Isabella should not have been born alive, let alone born healthy. So she's kind of a miracle child and a very talented artist, drifts around in a haze on who knows what time clock, disappears, produces art, and makes oddly profound statements every now and again, punctuating her silence when the mood takes her. Anyway, Annette left a boyfriend for me in 1994, back before we got married. She left Gertrude (black cat), with whom she was deeply connected, with her boyfriend, to come to me. It was not an easy decision. Nine years later, she learned from her ex-boyfriend that Gertrude had died and had had hyperthyroidism, 500% over normal range. Annette's specialist told her that 500% over-limit patients are normally in mental institutions, and Annette was raising our two girls, going out of her mind wild wildfire rages. She looked like a skeleton with bug eyes, always vibrating, buzzing. Her feeling is that Gertrude helped her survive that period by taking on some of the load.

In time, Annette, with the help of drugs, learned much about how her thyroid communicates with her, and has been drug-free since 2018. Essentially, she self-cured by listening and learning. Self-curing from hyperthyroidism should be impossible. Typically, you're either on drugs forever, or they cut your thyroid out. It's amazing what we can do, especially when there's a cat or two around to lead the way, even from a great distance.

My contribution to the new cat blog! I was thinking you could call it ChAT.

As crazy as it may sound, I give all of my pups, 25 of them, every day, pureed Asparagus. I can't stand the stuff but I have witnessed first hand that it does have an effect on at least some types of cancer.

This is what I prayed for you and Lewis. Let's never forget that prayer is speaking to the divine within ourselves, not expecting miracles in the material world. That happens everyday: it's called love.

I've been hearing about you and Lewis through Bibi. I put myself in your place and imagine Kitty Bumps and I in a similar situation and feel nothing but tender hearted compassion. I just came across a little practice that Thich Nhat Hanh teaches. It consists of three steps and is more easily done with two humans who embrace each other three times. The first time, each one says silently "I will die", in the second embrace, "you will die" and in the third embrace, "We have just these precious moments together". Indeed, how precious our time together!

Oh George, that's powerful. It brought tears to my eyes. Lewis is in awe of Kitty Bumps. Jack too. He's a living legend, and the King of Kerhonkson. Hug him from us!
