Beautiful story Celia, about the journey of these magical brothers and how they came into your life. Jack is right here purring and also swatting me as I try to pet him, telling him he is all the rage on Substack right now :) He is a kind soul and indeed has earned the distinction of being the ONLY feline Boxer rabbit accepts in our room. He is happy but wants Celia and his brother Lewis back!
What a beautiful story. I too once adopted a 'troubled' young cat that nobody else wanted. His name was also Jack, a ginger. He was terrified, wild, and so darn handsome it was love at first sight. Watching him change over the months from a wardrobe cat to a lap cat was so satisfying it made me realize there are few things in life that compare to the joy of rescuing a suffering animal and giving it a new life.
Did you know that purring actually speeds up the healing of a broken bone? This phenomenon also inspired a type of vibration technology for treating people.
Oh, Celia, what a lovely story, and what a small world. I have a female brown tiger cat who looks a lot like Lewis. She came with me from Vermont to Mexico in 2020, and we live in a place right now where she's able to go outside and hunt safely. I don't know what I'd do if anything happened to her. . . . I also used to live in Sharon, CT! My family moved there in 1961 when I was 15, and my mother lived in the same house for 40+ years before moving to Salisbury a few years before her death in 2013. I myself spent seven years in Lakeville as a young adult. 😘
When ya really stop and think about it interspecies friendships and communication is a miraculous thing. It can be one of life's gifts for those who are open to it.
You’re right, we haven’t “lost our minds” if we’ve made it this far. Still may be challenging times ahead, but hopefully we’ll continue to keep our minds (both for ourselves and our loved ones who need us) and press on. What else is there?
I have been enjoying your postings as a free reader. Your "Détante" story truly touched my heart. Thank you for sharing this. Very happy to say that I'm now a full subscriber and very happy to be here.

What a beautiful story, Celia…from one cat person to another. 🥰
Thank you for that story and for all you are doing for Jack and Lewis! You are the best!

Lovely story, and lovely cats😊.
Celia, a beautiful warm history.
Well, it is not about cats but on us and our animal sentimental companions
About Matter and Its Properties
A spectator will say
that they are only Juan
and his border collie dog
Pif Paf.
Every time that Juan
go to shopping and returns
Pif Paf comes to meet him
moving its tail
and giving little jumps
around him
making him cajoleries
wallow on the floor
and stays heels over head
hopeful that Juan
scratches its belly.
But me
the piece of matter
named Juan
see to other piece of matter
Pif Paf
its reunited atoms
joying itself to see me:
a piece of matter
rejoicing to see another piece of matter.
Mutually rejoicing.
Inexplicable the sentiment.
The house where we live
from certain distance witness us
and in its own way
also moves its tail.
This melted my heart, Celia 😻💞😻
