By the way, I, too, follow and watch Eva Bartlett and Patrick Lancaster--both are incredibly brave, talented real journalists with integrity. The New Atlas News reports the truth as well as a few other individuals thankfully.

My heart goes out to Ukrainian citizens who are the pawns, suffering unspeakable horrors, and have for the past 8 years.

Thank you for posting this. It's infuriating MSM doesn't report the truth and pushes the West's narrative. Every politician and Western world leaders, the EU has repeated the same b.s. about an illegal or sham vote.

Sergey Lavrov's speech and subsequent interview was excellent.

And to boot EU's Ursula threatened Italy if the vote didn't go as they want.

We are living in bizarro world.

Well the media is run by the same people who run the CDC, big pharmaceutical, black rock, Hollywood, FBI, DHS, State Department….AND Ukraine, I mean, it’s not like the Bible didn’t tell us what was up in revelation 2:9 and revelation 3:9…

Yes! It’s getting harder by day to keep sanity in the face of it. I’m constantly asking “is he/she lying or completely brainwashed?”

Your mention of Italy spurred me to share this: https://rootedwings.substack.com/p/meet-italys-new-prime-minister. We need some serious support of normalcy and encouragement, spoken in the beautiful language.

Always wanted to live in Sorrento....ahh, if only.

Spot on! Thanks for sharing, absolutely love it! I'm so happy for the people of Italy.

Ohh Sorrento... I've never been there, but the other cities and towns I've visited were marvelous. I wanted to move to Italy, too :-)

There’s a guy I follow on YouTube who makes war videos from around the world. I’ve been following the Ukrainian nonsense against eastern Ukraine since 2015. When Russia invaded, I openly stated, “Yeah, about time. What did you think was going to happen?” Since I only follow live videos and on the ground footage, I had no idea what the media was spinning, and I was kind of gobsmacked that all my “friends” were pro Ukraine.

Whatever dudes, you literally survived the first psyop, only to immediately jump in bed with those exact same people for the second one???

I can’t even….

my friend who's awake to 9/11, had the jabs though now admits her health problems started just after them, but still says Putin is the only evil one and war must stopped- with weapons.

The new virtue signalling; sending aid to Ukraine.

I have family like that - it's almost paralyzing how exasperating it is, watching them speak.

Thanks Celia! But as you know nothing will “convince” everyone. This, as I have said from Day 1 is ALL about Sebastopol and the Russian naval base set up there 300 years ago by the Russian Empress Catherine the Great. Without free access to Sebastopol through Crimea the Russians have NO warm water navy and would cease to be a “World Naval Power”! Every American with half an education in International affairs in the State Department and Defense Department knows it too! Instead of provoking the Russians, if our government had wanted peace they could have offered to negotiate a deal between Ukraine and Russia guaranteeing access to Sebastopol much the same way the US had access to Guantanamo by paying the Cubans for it. But Hillary had a bug up her ass about Putin and Im sure neither the neo Cons nor the Neo Libs want anything so inopportune as “Peace”…

yeah I think it wise not to keep poking the bear

It was dumb to poke the bear in the first place :(

indeed

Expand full comment

No, it's not all about Sebastopol. It's all about the humiliation of the Khazars by Russia and their other neighbors in the ninth century.

And Putin goes to war over that….?? I think no…

Expand full comment

No, Putin was pushed into that war by them.

If Russia created an organization who’s sole existence was to destroy the USA, established said organization in Argentina, and promised not to expand… then got Chile, Brazil, Nicaragua, Panama, and Peru to join, sent them nuclear missiles, established Russian military bases in those countries, THEN overthrew the Mexican president and established a pro Russia president in Mexico, then asked it to join the “kill Americans organization”… yeah…. We would’ve launched nuclear missiles 30 years ago.

Im just saying that strategically no Russian leader, no matter his political affiliation is going to give up the Naval Base at Sebastopol to a NATO country. There were other issues but that Naval Base is critical to Russian defense. Allowing their land route to it from Russian territory to be compromised was never an option… The Neo Cons and Neo Libs in our Deep State and Deep Defense establishments are fully aware of that

Expand full comment

Yes, agreed. I'm just saying that Sebastopol is not what it is "all about." It's just one element in a much bigger picture.

Expand full comment

Oh I absolutely agree. Plus, Russia has stated emphatically for decades that Ukraine will NOT be a NATO country.

That’s like Russia absorbing Mexico, and taking Guantanamo Bay. We wouldn’t tolerate it for one second.

Expand full comment

The US has broken every agreement we had with Russia not to encircle it. Brezhnev let Germany reunite partially on Reagans assurances it would NOT be invited into NATO and then Clinton breaks that by bringing Germany in… THE country at the very heart of two World Wars that killed over 47 Million Russians! Russia entered WWI at a disadvantage in order to fulfill its responsibilities to the Western Allies. We also shoved Yeltsin down their throats who looted Russia with the Oligarchs. Yes Russia was a threat under Stalin and Communism but in the last 30 years the US government has become the greatest threat to peace in the World with our corrupt antidemocratic bureaucracy..

No. The Empire of Lies & Hypocrisy has gone to war with Russia over that and Russia has acted to preserve itself.

I've been tracking this very closely for about 2 months. I recommend The Duran (a YT channel) and The New Atlas (also a YT channel).

You asked for a link to my article Words Fails Us yesterday: https://thdrussell.blogspot.com/2021/08/words-fail-us.html (I wrote that over a year ago! Wild!)

Here's three articles on the magnitude of what's happening between Russia-Ukraine, and how the EU has "shot itself in the lungs", as Victor Orban said.

I hate to use other people's platforms to promote my stuff, largely because I hate to promote my own stuff, but things are very very crazy out there. My take is that The West has been COMPLETELY outplayed by Russia and its own breathtaking mixture of hubristic arrogance and rank incompetence. Finally, something from Scott Ritter:

“If NATO doesn’t back the hell off, we are 1 second away from a nuclear war. If NATO continues to pretend that this is some game designed to weaken Russia.. Russia just changed the game. They said they are not playing this game anymore. The game has changed. NATO needs to wake up to the fact that anything it does once the referendums have passed will be an act of war against the Russian federation— and Russia will treat it as such and respond accordingly. It will not be a slow roll out, if NATO continues to provide Ukraine with the means to attack mother Russia, which very soon will be Kherson, Zaporozhie, you know all that daily pounding of the nuclear plant? It’s over man. It’s over. Do it again when it becomes Russia, I dare you Ukraine, you will cease to exist. I’m not saying Russia is gonna use nukes against them, Russia will just simply turn off the lights. Russia will kill the leadership (of Ukraine) The gloves are off, this has been a special military operation, we talked about how it constrains Russia (the SMO) now all constrains are off. When Russia starts defending mother Russia, they’re now gonna bring all of their abilities to the forefront. Russia has 25 million men available, they can go as big as NATO wants to go. Russia is ready to go as big as necessary. And if NATO wants to make this an issue, Russia will cross that threshold. If NATO wants to threaten the existence of Russia, by attacking Mother Russia either directly or indirectly through the Ukrainian proxy, then Russia will use every means at its disposal to ensure that it will fail — including nuclear weapons.” - former United States Marine Corps intelligence officer Scott Ritter

thank you great resources.

yes, I have been reading about the treaties and wars during the ottoman empire and the various alliances that occurred between Britain, France, Austria-Hungary and Russia to keep the peace in the unstable region and allow access to the warm Black Sea and to trade and resource routes to India. I have been following Patrick Lancaster since the start of this SMO. I also follow The Duran and New Atlas. I try and tell people what is happening and all I get are looks of disbelief. What the US has done to the Ukraine is horrible and it needs to stop. Their voting looks to be much better at preventing fraud than the mess we have in the US. I pray they get some peace soon.

I know this may be a bit personal so forgive me if so, and I liked your piece as always. Right on.

Aren't you having some Russian ancestry?

I was born in Moscow and only spoke English since five years old. Grew up east coast.

I have been listening to some of the speeches I find in Russian, to get my earballs around my native mother tongue a taste.

From the Open-source CIA handbook -- also known as Wikipedia:

The Donbas or Donbass is a historical, cultural, and economic region in eastern Ukraine.

The word Donbas is a portmanteau formed from "Donets Basin", an abbreviation of "Donets Coal Basin".

The name of the coal basin is a reference to the Donets Ridge; the latter is associated with the Donets river.

In 2012 coal production in Ukraine amounted to 85.946 million tonnes, up 4.8% from 2011. Coal consumption that same year grew to 61.207 million tonnes, up 6.2% compared with 2011.

More than 90 percent of Ukraine's coal production comes from the Donets Basin. The country's coal industry employs about 500,000 people. Ukrainian coal mines are among the most dangerous in the world, and accidents are common. Furthermore, the country is plagued with extremely dangerous illegal mines.

The Seversky Donets or Siverskyi Donets, usually simply called the Donets, is a river on the south of the East European Plain. It originates in the Central Russian Upland, north of Belgorod, flows south-east through Ukraine (Kharkiv, Donetsk and Luhansk Oblasts) and then again through Russia (Rostov Oblast) to join the river Don, about 100 km (62 mi) from the Sea of Azov. The Donets is the fourth-longest river in Ukraine, and the largest in eastern Ukraine, where it is an important source of fresh water. It gives its name to the Donets Basin, known commonly as the Donbas, an important coal-mining and industrial region in Ukraine.

The West is flailing around, caught off guard, describing these monumentous events a “sham” is perhaps too insulting and obvious for a wider and ever more cynical and captive audience. Sure hope so.

Also the difference between the great independent reportage you describe and that of the MSM is day and night. One has a human dignity and pace (as you describe), the other the fevered pitch of the advertisement.
