I love you, Cecilia, for anger at abusive behavior, for your level of indignation in response to corruption, and for all your goodness and gumption, which makes you say, "I hate GoFundMe, they are Evil!!" We tried to use the platform to raise money for fired health care workers---and were completely blown off by this group of criminals supporting all the evil and violence in our cities. You are right. Rotten to the core!!

PS- you can still write sentences, even when angry!

How could the organisers and donors not know of gofund's history?

Expand full comment

It seems that a majority of people don't know about GFM's history of interference with donations. I wonder how many times GFM has actually stolen funds that have been donated. It seems like a short trip from meddling with donations and actually pocketing some of them. People who would do the first, might not see anything wrong with doing the second.

Don't people know of bing, ddg, brave search, swisscows, metgur?

And the pundits who posted about it should certainly have known better and warned people.

No wonder they are winning with players like these on our side. It is like weekend warriors competing against experienced Olympians!

It's possible that many, if not most people, get almost all of their information from TV news sources. Also, those who don't have time to look past whatever appears on their phone screens are apt to skip doing any actual research online. It seems that most people would rather watch a video than to read anything more lengthy than a caption to a photo.

It seems that those of us who started their online usage 20+ years ago and who still use computers for web surfing are in the minority these days. I started on the old BBS sites in '95. In those days, people who didn't search out info were at a disadvantage in online discussions. Today, posting a comment of more than a hundred words is a rarity and an exchange of comments that lasts more than a few replies is almost nonexistent.

Things have changed and not really for the better.

Thus people are making things easy for "them" to manipulate and control. (That is all I've to say. Time is galleons.)

to add, i haven't followed the ins and the outs of when -- at what point in time -- gofundme started being draconian censors like this - was it 12, 24, 36, or more months ago?

And, wasn't givesendgo built as an alternative --- directly out of the controversy of gofundme's turn to the dark side?

is givesendgo not allowed to operate in Canada?

Expand full comment

Yes. How could people not heard of GFM skullduggery involving Trump supporters?

And more recently?

That is the net and *search* engines are for - to allow people to quickly search for information.

GiveSendGo is a legitimate alternative. Don't know, but it has received $2.8m in donations so far.

May be part of the problem with a spontaneous effort for an unprecedented initiative. Not enough time devoted to due diligence.

Expand full comment

Not so. The person who setup the account should have done d/d. And the donors certainly should have. Anyway, they have more cents than sense.

Expand full comment

Part of the problem is that this was a small grass roots initiative. The organizer thought she would be raising a few thousand dollars for a dozen or two trucks to cross the country. The movement snowballed so big and so fast that they were not prepared.

Expand full comment

Thanks for the update.

Still, she should have known better than to use GFM for any politically-charged matter.

Basic "tradecraft" is to have do research, have plan B, be prepared for the unexpected; have redundancy in leadership, and watch out for INFILTRATORS (guaranteed) - or traitors. Where possible, don't use or take smartphones to protests - to avoid tracking and spying.

It is difficult for inexperienced weekend warriors going against experienced Olympians - I mean no disrespect; it is just fact. That is why guerilla fighters suffered early losses before they learned on the job.

Expand full comment

They have been learning on the job, since day 1. Their original goal was around $ 20,000 with a handful of trucks, enough to go from west to east and back. Fuel per truck probably $1,000 - $1,500 round trip. No doubt, they never even considered gfm would pull a stunt like this...the whole idea was a spur of the moment decision. So, they goofed on that, but, because of the tremendous outpouring of support, they are still going strong. Meanwhile, gfm, responding to massive backlash and legal challenges, is automatically refunding every donation. Subsequently, in a mere few days the Freedom Convoy is already over $ 4million on givesendgo! I've seen many commenters claim that they will get their original donations back, and plan to double or triple that amount. I'm one of them. So, the Convoy is making lemonade out of lemons, if you will. And, they are not letting gfm, or Trudeau, or the MSM get away with their scams. They've put together a solid team of lawyers, security infrastructure and alt-media presence to go against the ''olympians.'' Pretty damn good for a bunch of weekend warriors.

Expand full comment

Thanks for the update.

I am impressed if what you said is true re lawyers, etc. I presume that lawyers are not cheap? Beware of being taken to the "vaccinators" by the lawyers. Remember that famous saying "I've been ruined but twice - one when I lost a legal case' and one when I won one."

Results - direct and indirect - are the only measures that count. In the meantime don't count your cases before they are hatched.

Expand full comment

The go fund me fiasco rather than hurting the organization, has probably helped it, while at the same time exposing go fund me. Public outrage and backlash caused them to do automatic refunds and most donors are pledging to double their initial donations. The organizers switched to givesendgo and have already raised 4 million in spite of the fact that the site is so overwhelmed that it keeps crashing.

The organizers are very aware of infiltrators and paid opposition both online and on the ground. This is one reason they actually do want everyone to have cell phones. They want the tens of thousands of people who are there to be photographing and video recording everything. This has been very effective to dispute the false reports made by the legacy media.

They have been very organized and resilient so far, especially considering the very short time they had to get it together.

I have no idea what will happen, as things progress but Change has already been effected, so very many of us Canadian supporters are feeling hope.

Expand full comment

Yep! Americans, too. I saw unconfirmed reports, on Rebel News tonight, that the police have begun arresting truckers. Rebel News already has a funding mechanism for legal support, and lawyers involved, to fight back in court. I agree with you about their organization and resilience....I think it's incredible. Another great move they made was hiring Daniel Bulford (sp?), former RCMP and sniper on Trudeau's security detail who was fired for not jabbing, to be their head of security.

Expand full comment

Thanks for the update. I wonder if people still remember GFM in two years' time.

" Public outrage and backlash caused them..." - that is the key - critical mass opposition to any action is the most effective way to counter it. That is why they always divide their opposition - "divide and conquer."

Use body cameras - including hidden ones (if legal).

Those truckies have been the most effective by far. However, I wish people put more pressure on them by being more serious and vociferous - rather than partying or smiling about. Pollies only respect sustained, mass-pressure. People smiling and partying do not produce pressure. If pressure is not maintained, they will lose impact - look at those protests in France, Italy and elsewhere.

As you know, other places are copying the truck convoys. In late 2021 Australian truckies did some blockade but it not have the support of the people.

Yes, Alberta has supposedly listened to them.

Hi, Sirka

It puzzles me that people are either so unread and/or too lazy to do basic due diligence.

And then they posted on the face.

Barry please remember these are trucker who are “trucking” and got a mandate that was going to defeat their livelihood and freedoms. They aren’t political activists or even spend half the time on the internet that you and I do or even own a computer. They’re driving constantly and sleeping!

Please put yourself in others shoes before you call them “lazy or unread.” They may have “read” more than you or I have, but just aren’t aware of how criminal GFM is because many weren’t aware, but now they are.

Have a little compassion... 💜

They are inspiring the whole WORLD right now. 🇨🇦

Who cares about due diligence when you’re in a war that was a sneak attack by both idiotic presidents.

All will work out and even better, as go fund me is going down now and the truckers will get their $10M plus more! And a small honest company like Give Send Go will thrive because of it!! TRIPPPPPLE BONUS for the WIN! 😎🎉

I am not calling the truckies lazy and unread. I called one)s) who created the GFM account and the donors.

Of course, I support. If I did not support or care, I would not bothered to waste my time writing my comments!

Of course, they could not have known about GFM - but that search engines are for. How long does it take to use bing, DDG, brave search to dig into GFM? Or search on the bird?

"Who cares about due diligence when you’re in a war that was a sneak attack by both idiotic presidents."

???

If people want to be effective, they need to due diligence!

"...and the truckers will get their $10M..." - did you know that gfm will automatically refund the donors?

Expand full comment

Most of their donors are also not activists. They are just average people going about their life. Go fund me is the most well known and used crowd funding platform here. People know and trust it, so why would they research it? They just donate their $20 and move on. The good news is that most people are mad and will give even more now, and they all know about gofundme, so they won’t trust it again. Btw they had other options available to donate, including Bitcoin.

Thanks. That makes sense - people did not know and assumed it was legit. Like we all do, often. gfm is legit, from what I read, for non-political matters.

Let's hope people remember the gfm now.

What I find odd is why don't people create one bank account and let people dump money into it? That would only be convenient for Chanadians only.

Truckers *always* carry fuel, food, and provisions, and those sleeper cabs have toilet facilities, too.

Expand full comment

Thanks. Then how come they are short of fuel, food, etc?

Expand full comment

There is no shortage of food. They have plenty and more comes flooding in from supporters. The fuel is a problem because the authorities have thwarted them at every turn. A large number of trucks got diverted and detained by the police to a stretch of highway with no gas stations to fuel up. The authorities blocked trucks entering the city and directed them away from the parliament. There are multiple lots in unseen areas filled with trucks, to give the appearance that the movement is smaller than it is. The police have blocked any fuel supplies from being brought in and although they stock piled a supply of fuel, tonight the authorities seized it.

Thanks for the update.

I presume it was legal for the cops to seize their spare fuel?

I bet they never did any such thing with blm protests.

In Wutoria, Australia, that feral premier cancelled the 26 Jan Australia parade; on the weekend he and some of his senior minister marched in a gay parade!

There is not even a resemblance of balance and justice anymore. Why? Because we allowed them to get away with their scams,

It’s really outrageous that GoFund Me has the audacity to even attempt this. Even more outrageous is that they feel entitled to do so or think they have the moral authority to decide upon which charities they feel are deserving enough to receive some of the dedicated contributions to their selections. This really speaks volumes about the company and the attitude of those in power that feel they are morally superior and best know how make decisions that “we the people “ aren’t fit to run our own lives.

While GoFundMe absolutely sucks in general and especially with what they did here, the truth is that they made the call to automatically refund all of the contributions about 12 hours before DeSantis announced his investigation. I suspect their reconsideration was actually prompted by a large volume of donators requesting credit card chargebacks, creating pressure from the credit card processors for them to do the right thing to avoid the headaches of tens of thousands of chargeback transactions.
