How I Stopped Worrying About Tyranny And Started Laughing At Tweets About The "Mugshot"; Black Humor Saves America From Democrat Despots
Working Theory: America Is un-Killable
“It will all be OK in the end.
If it’s not OK, it’s not the end.”
(Fridge magnet I once had)
Have you ever been worried stiff about the imminent death of America, only to get on social media, find yourself laughing, and realizing…what you’re laughing at feels so much like the “country” you are so sure is “dying.”
You were ready to truly give up all hope. I’m guilty of this—
But then you kind of… wait till the next day and go— nah.
We have a saving grace in this country: We perform, create, and interpret, all the time—way faster than tyrants can tyrannize. We find the punchline.
What I now think will save us, (is saving us right now,) is our sense of the absurd, the ridiculous and above all, the hilarious.
Art is a big word. We’re a performative culture, not a pious one. If we’re “great,” surely it’s because of the music that happened here—and the comedy. And all kinds of things. It’s not because we drive big cars. It’s because we’re a teenager who refuses to be serious.
Watch this (by clicking on the link beneath this image)—
I think it’s the exact opposite of what Ooana Trien calls socialist realism. The opposite of the sickening dancing nurses, or Stephen Colbert’s Needle Suit. It makes you want to live.

This is my new theory: We’re going too be ok because we’re never going to stop finding this all so very funny. (Precisely because it is so serious.) It can’t be taken seriously in a culture that (rightly) refuses to be serious.
And that’s us—un-killable America.
Watch, for example, this—genius Trump impersonation “The Mona Lisa Of Mug Shots:”
This guy is phenomenal!
And here’s another clip, where he does his Trump impersonation next to Trump, which drives home my point that the performative (and absurd) will be our salvation.
Farash takes the very grandiosity that Trump so effortlessly embodies, (that is, to the Trump-haters, the reason he’s Hitler and Mussolini,) and distills its essence, which has something unintentionally reassuring about it. Let me expand on that a little. Trump is reassuring because when you see him, you see chandeliers, but not weird globalist metallic light fixtures. He does not want to talk about you eating bugs.. He’s not of that mindset and he never will be. Nor will RFK Jr. Both are proper (classical) Americans, in that sense. They don’t think you should pretend to be happy eating bugs. That’s the “revolution” that won’t ever succeed—here. Please God Amen.
Trump is the reason America had to die, right? Officially. The way we had to die was by being stripped of, apart from every single thing we enjoyed in life—our humor. Humor is the most democratizing force in the universe.
They dragged us through it all these years, only to take it so far over the last border—the Mug Shot, the shot they thought would be the shot heard round the world—but wasn’t. It was just the laughter heard from LA to Atlanta.
(Profanity warning) All these tweets are in their own way, at least to me, fascinating.
Democrats seem to have—yes—now truly lost the black vote, and the guilt trip is over, as the culture assumes the role of driver, while the supposedly terrifying despotic elites get ground down and recycled into content.
Content they have no power to ever create.
Tweets about New Love for Trump from blacks who know all about unjust jail sentences:
“It’s the worst thing they could have done.”
“Trump is a brother now.”

I’m just describing what I see.
I am not discussing Trump, believe it or not. Or Warp Speed. Or my vote.
This is about the never ending show that somehow at the very same time is a country, on the brink of despotism, only to be rescued by what a great story it all makes.

Celia, I think this is the best thing I’ve read on Substack in a long time, and I do follow the great ones. Thank you for not turning away from the things you’ve seen, even when all the others did, so that you could learn to think this way. It had to have come at a cost, and we all benefit from it now.
