He was a very dapper and nice man and I knew him slightly--he was named Hugh, as I recall. The thing is that it is very difficult in the last analysis to decide who he was. He was basically forced out of the CIA eventually for his 'obsession' ferreting out communist moles. I have long known of his connections to foreign intelligence service--as the counter Intel guy, of course. Historically, people tend to say that he was so convinced that the CIA was infiltrated with communist spies that he basically went crazy. But he is often portrayed in opposition to Dulles. I read a book about Angleton in the last year or so that basically made the case that he was in fact correct that the CIA had been penetrated by Soviet moles and that he was driven from the agency because of it. This from the James Jesus Angleton book by Edward Jay Epstein who also wrote the intriguing book, Dossier--a biography of Armand Hammer.

Lots of fingerprints. But it was, until yesterday, widely considered an antisemitic "trope" to include Israel in all the fingerprints.
Just for clarity, did those 'fingerprints' involve other Countries (specifically) besides those already affiliated (CIA/FBI/MI5/MI6)?

It’s def not definitive proof - and I say that as one whose cousins are being massacred by Israel for their lands. My family moved to Palestine between 5-600 AD and did NOT steal half the land.
I have read, over the years, that indeed Angleton had a special affinity for Israel. And the Israeli's for him. I'm sorry that I cannot source it, but I think I read somewhere that there is a monument or some type of honor of him in Israel.
Not sure, at this point, if I believe anything in these newly released documents, because I don't believe anything coming out of the Beltway now, but I do believe in an Angleton/Israel connection, for whatever it is worth.
I always said Israel and CIA for JFK Kennedy assassination and for 9/11. Unfortunately my Western friends blocked me and I am glad they did!
