Earthquakes are sometimes related to eclipses and full or new moons. Yesterday was a new moon, and there was an eclipse that was total in some parts of Spain.
The USGS and geophysicists state there is no evidence that eclipses trigger seismic events. While tidal stresses from the moon can very slightly influence the timing of earthquakes on already stressed faults, this effect is negligible and not unique to eclipses.
Actual Seismic Effect: Research from the 2024 eclipse showed a measurable seismic change, but it was a drop in anthropogenic noise (traffic, construction) as people stopped to watch the sky, not an increase in tectonic activity.
Anecdotally, we had the most magnificent low tide at sunset tonight, it registered at -0.3. it came in 45 minutes earlier than charted and is the lowest I have seen in 40 years on the coast.

actually one theory on the moon that I believe has some evidence behind it is that billions of years ago a large object like the size of mars collided with the earth, the moon was what rebounded from that collision and one of the results of the collision was an almost instantaneous complete change in the makeup of the earth's atmosphere. That's when the atmosphere became close to what it is today, and that change completely changed the course of the development of life on earth. I believe that part of that theory is that's when bacteria that could not tolerate all that oxygen in the atmosphere hid themselves inside other bacteria and became mitochondria. If this theory is correct, then it was something like a one in ten trillion chance life as we know it on this planet developed the way it did. We could be living on a planet unlike any others across thousands of galaxies.

I must be on some really weird algorithm that feeds me that kind of stuff. Just checked the charts, tomorrow mornings low tide says-0.8. I will see how accurate their stats are,given I have never seen it lower than today.

The aftershocks were rather unsettling cause you could hear them coming before they actually hit! And they were frequent for that first week or so.

The one thing is to go outside in the open, so if the structure you’re in decides to collapse you’re not inside of it.
We were taught ‘duck and cover’ when we were in elementary school, but never had to do that maneuver!
Wow! I've felt earthquakes in Canada, Germany, Mexico and Ecuador. Lots in Ecuador. The worst ones were several minutes long, one after another that left me rather disoriented with an internal shaking after. The one at the coast had everyone packing up and leaving in the middle of the night. Being on holiday without a car we stayed but experienced aftershocks for a good day or so after. Thankfully no tsunami.
If you're in bed when an earthquake happens the first thing to do is put a pillow over your head to protect from any potential debris falling on your face and head. Then get outside. Usually they are too short to make it out before they stop. Also, beware of where you keep books and glass items. They should never be in a place where they can fall on you. Low shelves are better and never, ever, ever those awful headboards with shelves!
glad you're safe! I prefer to be outdoors away from buildings, away from overhead powerlines, away from anything that can fall on me. Of course, if you're in a building when it happens you may not have time to do anything about it. Or maybe you do. I was in my house on Whidbey Island when an earthquake hit, I ran outside and stood in the middle of the street while the ground shook. My brother was at work in Bellevue and he also ran outside to a big courtyard where the ground continued to shake for a good half minute or 45 seconds. He was closer to the epicenter than I was.
I was thrown out of bed by an earthquake, which struck about100 miles away, at age three in 1952. On May 25, 1981 I was selling stuff at a crafts fair when we were lifted up and down by what felt like a rolling wave from a 7.i magnitude earthquake in Mammoth, an almost equal distance away. It sounded like a locomotive coming up the highway. It was actually kind of fun.

my first earthquake was the 1971 Sylmar earthquake (6.6) before retrofitting of structures
1994 Northridge (6.7) and 1987 Whittier (5.9) earthquakes also caused widespread damage in Orange County.
including my neighbor’s chimney fell through their roof and almost hit their son sleeping on the couch (Whittier) and Angels Stadium big A sign, scoreboard and screen (Northridge.)
have been outdoors during two minor quakes and they do have the distinct sound of an approaching freight train, you can tell something is wrong ahead of the shaking but can’t quite tell what’s going on.
the day before the Northridge earthquake I went on a long walk with my mom and a dog persistently followed us (at a distance) even following us into the store. we were worried it was lost and tried to discourage it from wandering any further to no avail. is it possible the dog sensed the tension?

Then listening to the wild birds during that eclipse, the tweeting, constant, so many, did they feel the end was coming? Silence again as the light returned.
Earthquakes.... 2 here, North Wales 1984, while climbing into shower, thought the bath couldn't take my weight, then it stopped. Middle of night, maybe 2003/4, wake thinking I'm dreaming as the wardrobe is moving, then teenage son comes into my room, "Mum, we've just had an earthquake!" No damage, miraculously!

yes, it makes sense. the moon and the sun are aligned and pulling in the same direction then. Tides are bigger, so that pull on the earth happens too.

Simple ,before Theia hit earth 4.5Ga ,it was being steered by Archeangel Michael ,speed of light gravitational torque acting as a footpedal .
