After the Stasi's paranoia set in, they considered furtively switching to decaf. But the coffee commercials demonstrated that consumers could pick out their brands in blind taste tests.
What a fascinating story! Being a very observant person & married to a left handed man I always notice when my husband leaves our teapot or coffee pot with the handle faced to the left. Lol. My children thought I had eyes in the back of my head when I would come in & get onto to them for watching tv before doing their homework after school. I never told them I felt the tv & it was warm, mom’s are much too smart to give away those secrets. 😂
I probably would have noticed the level of coffee in the canister had decreased or extra grounds in the trash before noticing the position of the handle on the pot. The location of the pot in a corner may have made the position of the handle stand out more vs if it was just on a straight counter. They could have brought their own coffee and left with the trash.

This has nothing to do with the coffee maker, although we do own a refrigerator that was made in 1953, that we purchased in 1986 and have only had to have it repaired once. And my Chambers stove, which is 1955. And my prized pink Sunbeam electric frying pan, which is very handy for potato pancakes.
I'm reading The Amazing Liver and Gallbladder Flush by Andreas Moritz. I almost fell over at page 121. Donald Trump Speaks Out. Apparently Trump gave an interview on Fox News on April 2, 2012 and told viewers, "I strongly believe that Autism Spectrum Disorders are linked to exposure to vaccines."
I posted the pages from the book on my Substack. It's my first "article". Holy crappers, he knows the truth about vaccines.
I'm not sure where you get the "conspiracy theory" part from but I'm totally with you on the narrator's tone and the scripting. Awful - plus it took way too long to spit out. I sped it up.
Wild! What an odd channel, The History of World in Spy Objects! Very cool. It's very creepy to realize how many of Germany's current politicians have Stasi pasts or other Stasi connections.
The only name I know offhand is Angela Merkel, and if you look up whether or not she was part of the Stasi, it all becomes very murky. I follow eugyppius on substack, which is where I learned about this, possibly from the comments section, and over a number of months -- apparently a number of current political figures in Germany were either part of the Stasi or were associated (like Merkel, who was clearly associated if not technically a member). I recommend the eugyppius substack if you don't follow him -- amazing brilliant commentary on life in Germany right now. Here's a link to one of his recent posts: https://www.eugyppius.com/p/german-police-conduct-coordinated?r=1n1iup&utm_campaign=post&utm_medium=web&showWelcomeOnShare=false
I just asked Grok if any current German politicians were members of the Stasi, and got a decent answer. Grok gives 3 names, the most notorious I suppose: Gregor Gysi, Lothar deMaiziere, Manfred Stolpe. Grok also runs down several reasons why it's very hard to get the facts on former Stasi members, which is pretty interesting.
It's so typical of the rabbit hole of "black ops" and "security" and "spys" -- it's almost impossible to find anything you can be sure of. Smoke and mirrors! Merkel's father was Stasi? I didn't even know that. Clearly I need to do more research! Thanks.
The infantile ( was M 6years old?) Merkel move to the west seemed to cleanse a multitude of sins .
UK is entranced by double and triple agents ,having saved Putin's life a number of times - sources related to Bear Grylls 's grandad 's dedication (book) on chasing factual russion WW2 gold bullion as startup for MI6's existence .
My visit over four decades ago to the collection of nations formerly known as Yugoslavia is the nearest facsimile to The Iron Curtain I've ever experienced B.C. (before "covid"). I arrived close to midnight and the city of Ljubljana was completely deserted due, I later learned, to an airtight curfew. I wrapped myself in a sheet and slept behind some shrubbery in a public park until I was gently awakened by a passing student (merciful angel) around 6 am who (in English!) warned me that it was advisable to rise and shine as the alternative could get me arrested for loitering (or was it trespassing?). Surreal doesn't begin to describe that entire leg of my sojourn.
The best you can say about 99.54% of TV programs is that they provide plenty of people with well-paying jobs. But every once in a while, one comes along that strips away the facades to expose the rotting structures holding "civilization" together. In Mr. Robot, the sprawling entity that keeps everyone in thrall doesn't even feel the need to hide its true nature: Evil Corp. MR is one of the bleakest depictions of our modern dystopia, but first with the enforced insanity of "covid" and now with the current version of mad King George unraveling every vestige of our once-vaunted democracy, even MR seems tame in comparison. The good news is that MSNBC's Rachel Maddow stepped up and has weathered a $5 million reduction to her annual salary (previously a paltry $30 million). How noble! How magnanimous! The patter she and her colleagues generate can seem insightful for long stretches until some comment or other is ventured (often accompanied in RM's case by her telltale chortle) so at odds with reality I half-expect the TV itself to self-destruct in protest.
We were in Bosnia for a few months in 2005. The apartment we rented had loads of beautiful Tito-era enamel ware. And Yugos, which were not so beautiful, but functional
What I don't understand is why it happened more than once. I would've thought that the first time she told her husband the pot looked different he would have passed this on immediately so it didn't happen a second time or certainly not more than a couple of times.

That’s because you were observant and figured s**t out! 😉🧐

Celia, you always bring such interesting subjects to the table. Thanks for that. Jim
Quaint tactics by today's standard. But, it shows surveillance of everyone has been going on forever.

I'm sorry, I don't have patience for dramatic-music-and-upper-crust-English-accent-conspiracy-theory YouTubes.

Merkels father ,yes ..
But the rest are important .
Not least because the ''brexit'' pretence at non co-operation from MI5/6 with BSD
shows a ceratin jealousy on behalf of the brits .
Deeply appreciative of the gen and the links .
Shine , again .

Of course she would remember how she left the handle of the coffee pot! She made the coffee!
Her husband, the gaslighting spy working for the Stasi, tried to make her think she was crazy! But she knew and found validation years later! 😉🤔👏🏼
I'll be checking kitchen items out with greater scrutiny henceforth! Holy Stasi quandary, OMG!
