"They like games. They play games with each other."
I've seen too many instances of animals -- in real life and in countless videos by animal lovers & scientists -- engaged in various forms of play and, for want of a better term, indulging in seemingly useless but fun sport, to reduce it all to "Evolutionary behavior". The phenomenon of play is a glimpse into the divine, the metaphysical -- ipso facto what playfully defies the cause-and-effect machine of materialistic Scientism -- and Darwin and his post-modern acolytes be damned.
" The phenomenon of play is a glimpse into the divine, the metaphysical..." I agree, Hesperado. I'm reminded of the old saying, "God likes us when we work, but (S)He loves us when we sing."
I wish I could follow the twitter account you posted but I've been permanently banned.
so jealous of this guy. i have swum with seals, they approached curiously but never got too close. maybe because i wasn't more than a few feet underwater sans scuba gear
I like to swim in the bay, the SF aquatic park, whenever possible.
I love to see the harbor seals, like these , basically , as well as sea lions , pelicans, all the wildlife birds. There used to be starfish but these seem to have been erased, sadly, no longer to be seen around....
Thanks for both videos. The real story is better than the made up one. Mistakes happen to the best of us...
And it truly is. I noticed the AI kind of fleetingly and thought hummm, why not a real person. A good exercise in developing discernment.

Incidentally, there's a Twitter account devoted to remarkable activities of various animals -- https://twitter.com/buitengebieden

Sheila, I love this quote from Rabindranath Tagor when I first read it in high school:
"God respects me when I work, but He loves me when I sing."
I'm banned also from Twitter, but I can still read tweets. I just go there and browse around, but I can't comment or tweet myself.
Agree with your Dad. Good stories ruined by the material world.

The second one was incomparably better than the first one.
It was great to see him hugging a seal back...
Yeah, the 1st you posted was uplifting, but the AI voiceover reminded me of something one might see on TikTok.
The 2nd video is even more impressive, as it simply displays curiosity and friendship.
Reminds me of "My Octopus Teacher"
Brava!
This act of benign credulity is not a bad way to start the year.
you're welcome, it's truly an inspiring story.
I loved it anyway.
Beautiful creatures! 🦭

t. y. Celia - - one of the MOST JOYFUL of vids to start our New Year !
Very beautiful. We are learning, I now will not listen to AI voice, or try to.
One of my favorite Barry quotes! In fact, I used it just the other day.
