It’s called FREEDOM OF SPEECH (not Freedom FROM Speech). Don’t like it? Change the channel. Freedom of Speech was created to protect “crude, degrading language”.

Expand full comment

She's free to put in her two cents, though the penchant toward censoring is strong in this one!

Expand full comment

Why is asking people to be respectful in expressing their ideas “censorship”?

Expand full comment

You're playing the role of morality police, and that is the crux of censorship. Sorry, it's not solely about criticizing corrupt govt. Where on earth did you get that ridiculous idea? It's speech that is offensive to others (especially offensive ideas), that is 'unacceptable' to social norms, that MUST be protected, otherwise there truly is no free speech. Yes, curse words can be excessive and overused, and I agree that can simply be crude and often signifies a bad habit, but most people (as in this case) use them as points of emotional emphasis simply because they are somewhat 'taboo' to use in a typical conversation.

Expand full comment

Actually that is not true. It was about speaking one’s mind about corrupt government. The founding fathers were decent, respectful, and respectable men. As John Adams said, “Our Constitution was made only for a moral and religious people. It is wholly inadequate to the government of any other.” This is the reason the Constitution is being undermined - lack of morality and fear of God.

Rather than protecting filth, freedom of speech protects my freedom to say that degrading language offends me and is inappropriate.

Expand full comment

Yeah, I'm sure none of those founders ever cursed, especially those in the midst of conjugating with their slaves and 'founding' some illegitimate children. Speech that offends sensibilities, whether words in the Carlin list of those that can't be stated on TV, must be protected. You would have been completely supportive of Lenny Bruce being imprisoned over and over again for simply saying particular words in his standup routines. In fact, that was merely an excuse to lock him up because he was an acute social critic who threatened the establishment. There are no 'bad' words except in the minds of puritanical people like yourself. If i say 'fuck' it;'s utterly meaningless and is the same as saying 'duck' with regard to the word itself. It's only your baggage about the word that makes it offensive. Stripped to its essence it is essentially the same sound. it's just cultural taboo/superstition. Now if I say 'fuck you!' in person and ACT in a threatening manner, that's another story, but that has nothing to do with the word itself except I intuitively know it has the weight of cultural taboo behind it. What matters is if I'm acting in an aggressive or threatening manner toward someone, not the words themselves. This is the bullshit of political correctness and safe spaces for people afraid of life and afraid of open debate/communication who are turning words into actions, which is complete garbage when disconnected from action itself. I could say "feck you!" and you're not offended? If i say "puck you!" or "feck you!" aggressively that can be perceived as threatening to an individual due to my BEHAVIOR, then it's my actions, not the words that matter. I can respond to someone, "fuck you" in a very casual and flippant manner (likely someone I know decently enough) and it has virtually nothing behind it except to say something like, 'you're full of crap'' or some such sentiment. But in your world, it's the words themselves, and that's nonsense, and that's why it's dangerous because it's totally divorced from real world context.

That's the most beautiful description I think I've ever read. Getting rid of the self righteous PC crowd has to happen if we're ever going to get around the "woke" BS about every thing on the planet.

Why is it "foul"? You've avoiding having to think about your assumptions with regard to language and what is considered "bad" or "foul" or "offensive." Words are not foul or dangerous, but people are.

For what it's worth, lilac, I wholeheartedly agree. I've had to learn to just pass over the comments on all of the sites I read that are obscenity laden.

I do believe in free speech. No question. For me, that is not the issue. I just find it distasteful. I am very disappointed that the F word has become part of our vernacular. It's vulgar and it's an angry word.

So like many things in life, especially these days, I have to take responsibility for my own contentment.

That means passing over language I find offensive.

Please dispense being a hall monitor. : )

I have decided that if people feel free to use offensive, abusive language, then I should feel free to say it offends me. Most of us who find filthy language insulting and offensive (me included) have been silent about this issue for too long. In the meantime, things continue to spiral down. If you had been paying attention, you might have noticed that that author of this space has also “liked” some of my comments to this effect.

Expand full comment

With all due respect, lilac, I didn't see where anyone objected to a statement from you that the language offended you. It was your demand that people stop using such language. There is a difference. That said, I'm not sure why anyone feels the need to bring up others' language in forums such as these. As others have said, ignore what you don't like. We have to do that in all areas of life, or remove ourselves from those situations. It's your choice to make but to demand others conform to your standards is simply not warranted. On another note, I've never understood being offended. I'm not sure why that word even exists other than in the context of an offense against some lawful policy, or as in offensive or defensive driving or sport teams, etc. To be "offended" personally by something another does or says or wears is just immature and in fact I've never even seen children be offended by others. It's absolutely not possible to offend me. Why? Because I know who I am, what I believe and stand for, and nothing anyone else does or says changes that. They can do as they please, (as long as they are not harming others, including animals), and they can say what they want. It has zero effect on me, and it shouldn't on anyone else, either. Ignore or remove from your life but in no way should anyone try to control others' word choices. I also agree that sometimes crude or loud language needs to be used to get others to sit up and take notice. Sad but true.

Great comment. She'll never pay attention to it, though. People like that are part of the PC problem that has been plaguing the world since the 90s. No one has a right to think, do, or say anything that these people don't agree with for myriad reasons.

Expand full comment

I find people who think they're superior, because they're intolerant of others offensive.

Expand full comment

So, you can say whatever you want, but you want to censor me? Why are you intolerant of people who appreciate clean, decent conversation?

Expand full comment

You can say whatever you want as well, but when you try to control what others say, you cross a line.

You have the right to object, just as they have the right to swear.

Remember. The expletives were aimed at those evil ********* who have maimed and killed thousands of people, while ruining the lives of too many others.

Read Celias posts and ignore the comments, because you will find "impoliteness" and anger.

Expand full comment

Again, who is to say what is or isn't bad language? A word is a word is a word. As others have said, it's what you perceive that word to mean, what experience you have with those words, not the word itself.

Expand full comment

Wow, you are the super puritanical hall monitor at that! Sorry, but you strike me as someone who might just be very repressed and lacking passion. A presumption, yes, but lighten up and recognize context. You're offended by words directed at someone who exhibits total callousness to the extent of being proud of what amounts to criminal behavior? Live a little.

Expand full comment

I have tried to find out which comment offended you, was it only about the use, once, of "f****"?

Expand full comment

Yes. She’s offended by my use of the F word. That’s fine, she’s entitled to that opinion, and she may very well be right. She does have a point in alluding to the degradation of society, and of that, I’m in agreement.

She’s most definitely free to express her opinion on her feelings about that language as well.

I walk a line of using offensive language not in casual conversation, but to convey my emotions of anger. It’s a line. You’ll never walk a line and please everyone.

My opinion is, these people destroyed lives and killed numerous people, including children. They deserve a curse word or two.

Expand full comment

A flurry of curse words is warranted, at the very least as an outlet as opposed to going gangster on them (which, unfortunately, may be the sole route to some sense of justice in our deeply corrupted society).

Expand full comment

I looked again and also found one "goddamn". And I actually recall a time when I would have been offended too. Then later I realized that certain people would not believe when I stated I was angry, if too calm and without expletives. There are a lot of people who )u consciously of course) don't pay attention as long as you stay too composed. They erroneously feel you are not yet seriously appalled so no need to take your criticism seriously. Stupid, but my experience.

Expand full comment

Again, while I agree with many of your comments and ideas, there is something inherently wrong about this particular gripe. Who is to judge the "quality" of anyone's comments? There is no way to objectively pull that off.

If only more people had stood up and not just gone along to get along, this would have happened a whole lot sooner. Those who complied helped to drag things out longer than necessary. If more people had the nerve to defy injustice, just think how much more quickly this scam, and the “mandates” would end.

I believe that debt is a major contributing factor to people acquiescing - fear of losing their homes, cars…. People who are not in debt for anything and have a reserve for emergencies are more free to stand up against tyranny.

We should've never gotten to the stage of "mandates" as I see it. The fact that the corporate-Govt in cahoots with the WHO-CDC-WEF have effectively introduced the idea of mandates that supersede personal sovereignty ought to send a warning chill up the spine. We need to oppose the WHO's next phase in global pandemic mandates and decrees which are being shuffled out as we snooze. The battle is still on! ..thank you for posting a positive news item in any event. pax

Expand full comment

They’ve been toying with the use of mandates by initiating them on school children for quite some time. All it takes is to spread fear and propaganda. Vaccines after all are our way to be safe and secure or so we’re told. Del Bigtree and Brandy Vaughn (RIP) have been warning us about this for awhile that the Pharma mob was coming for all the adults . But we just never thought they’d try it.

Agree...and as RFK, jr has stated--if we go back to 50-70 years, children received at most 3-4 vaccinations: the MMR triad. I had chicken pox and mumps as a child. I survived, my autoimmune response was enhanced and I am considered to be in good health today. The emergence of the "health-security-state" has zero to do with health or authentic science-based health care. As the push for mandates was introduced via govt school systems[employing the same guilt tactics as the recent CV scam,i.e.,if you don't get your child innoculated you are a bad parent--"do it for the team", etc] the Pharma-Mad Ave TV supplements and local news assets stepped up the pace. This is evidence for a deliberate indoctrination schedule with a profit motive. The controllers use the fear to gain more power...so it goes. We must never underestimate the length and scope of efforts employed by psychopathic tyrants.

Expand full comment

If we ever doubted the tyrants' efforts before, Operation Stupid 19 dispelled any of that. I began learning about the power globalist elite about 10 years ago when it was made it clear that they were behind 9/11 and horrible things like war, disease and poverty etc. all ways they control and steal from us while enriching themselves. I often say that I've learned more in the last couple of years than I did in the previous seven decades. But it feels good to be part of the solution which has to be one of truth, dignity, prosperity and peace. Also the realization that in a human community based on honor and love we are unstoppable. Cheers!

As sad as it might be, the past 2.5 years seems to have brought ot the creepiest side of so many people who obviously get a rise out of telling others how to act. When it was required I used to wear the mask on my chin which never seemed to bother anyone until one day a lady claiming to be a health care worker got real bossy with me about it while shopping at CVS. Ignoring her she proceeded to insist the sales clerks do something about my threat to their safety. They also ignored her. As I was leaving I saw her complaining about me to someone at the Covid vaccine table who wasn’t interested either. I walked out smiling mask free.

The most painful aspect is that Eric Adams was so clear when he worked on his own recovery from junk food and reversal of his T2D. He saw, and expressed clearly how big pharma was not the solution, and he publicly called them drug dealers. I was posting open letters when he was running to reverse course from the completely destructive Cuomo/DeBlasio rona madness, but clearly it did not register anywhere. (the first one 10/8/21: https://hippocratessays.com/eric-adams-an-open-letter/) I had met him and Tracey at a conference and at that time he was normal and he had it together, and some in my extended family knew him. But he utterly lost it as Mayor and he became a totalitarian and a shill for big pharma.

As a result of his singular stupidity, he is now hoist on his own petard, and he has done nothing but continue to wreck the NYC economy, while living in an echochamber of sycophants who won't ever make him stop and listen to what he is doing.
