There is additive truth in what has been said here. And even though the clouds are about to open up upon us and shower us with perhaps deserved utter devastation, even though we are a subjugated people living under an administration of pure terror imaginable, and even though logic and/or every application reason darkens our prospects ... if we surrender our hope and joy, this would mean the Monsters would win. Never let that happen.
sounds like some Eastern wisdom I read some time ago. To enjoy the little things in life. Walking in the woods with the animals. Shuffling feet in the dry leaves. Feel the soft rain on your cheeks. Look up at the sun and raise your arms. Blue sky. The wind in your hair. Probably easier when there is little left of life and no one to really worry about....
Thank you for this. Joy is the ultimate rebellion right now. Let's steep ourselves in it whenever and however possible... and sprinkle it around like confetti!
Yes. Nick and I are born on Sep 22. Hobbit Day - the day of souls who know that life is an adventure which is full of challenges but the treasure is in their overcoming - I love Nick. His 'Dead Man In My Bed' I cover in my singing. I am not a professional writer, but I am a professional singer, and fellow 9/22 Nick Cave has been one of my lifelong mentors... absolutely thank you for sharing this Celia. Beautiful ~
Longtime Nick Cave/Seeds fan, a man who has known his own tragedies an' trials... his poetry is rich an' earthy (all his lyrics were poems too 'a course...) An interestin' post he made here on abandoning his darker vision (many've us can relate ta this...'specially over the past couple years): https://www.theredhandfiles.com/hallmark-card-hippie/
Hello Celia, Many thanks for this post. For me Nick Cave’s art, music and musical integrity has always been up there with the best that popular music has to offer. Seeing him and his band perform was an extraordinarily uplifting experience that bordered on the spiritual. At the same time, the man delivers all the visceral, booty-shaking verve that one comes to expect from great rock/pop music artists and performers. At the risk of sounding trite, his oeuvre is music for the “thinking person”.
Yet, his decision to perform in Israel—and his less than satisfactory rationale for doing so after being called out by Eno, Roger Waters and others—left me questioning his otherwise impeccable judgement about life, art, and the big issues attending it. In short, this was the wrong call. Given the man’s stature in the popular culture firmament and the ‘street cred’ that attends it, taking a righteous stand against the criminal Zionist regime and its abhorrent, genocidal policies would’ve added much needed ballast to the Palestinian cause.
I will continue to enjoy Cave’s music and his art. But it will always now be coloured by his decision to effectively support the murderous Zionist agenda. It’s naive at best, and disingenuous at worst, to think that performing in Israel is somehow going to contribute to a mellowing of the Zionist project or that God’s Chosen might be prepared to second guess that presumed status. Too much water (or blood) has flowed under the bridge to have any realistic expectations of such an outcome. It begs a simple question: Does Cave really have a handle on the history and ideology of Zionism? If he’s reading this, here’s where he might begin to explore same. 👍🙏⬇️👀

I came to know Nick Cave a bit late in life, but from that moment on I became a big fan of him.
I've have been in psycho therapy for more than 17 years and when I finally was able to climb out of my dungeon and dared to participate in society again this ridiculous "Health" crisis began!
So first I locked up myself and when this crisis started "my" Govt locked me up and started to interfere with my basic human rights and shit.
Anyways, what I want to say is that during these therapy years I learned that the human psychy tends to focus on the negative instead of the definitely excisting Positive. We all tend to even forget that there's something like positive thingies. The daily projections out of our society onto our brains produced during our whole upbringing neurological highways of Negativity. And by working 'hard' and keeping the "American Dream" in focus, we MIGHT succeed to reach that state of "Happiness" . We tend to neglect our body signals of which we learned that they are merely sings of weakness, but at a certain point in life the elasticity of our bodies gives out. The ability to absorb becomes exhausted. The stress hormone has depleted the adrenal cortex and, as our conditioning always directs us, we don't start looking inside our bodies, but once again we start looking for external solutions to internal problems. The doctor has a pill for every problem.
Because we are herd animals we gravitate toward each other and then people like Nick Cave stand out as soon as they remind us that in the end it is healthier to focus on the positive things after all, so that we may recharge ourselves for what is to come.
And since the psychopaths of the world have discovered that the Neoliberal system is the ideal habitat for their mental condition and that in that particular system the ladder of success seems to be made for them, we are now confronted with their world perception every day. A form of reality diametrically opposed to our own. We must be careful not to call it a power grab either, because in fact it is not. It is an act of desperation.
Our daily struggle not to give in to the Highway of Negativity already mentioned above is thereby made even more difficult. So we need each other now more than ever to be able to get out of this together. Very much of what is happening now is distraction. We owe it to ourselves and the future to keep reminding each other what the essence of life is.
His last documentary made during lockdowns "this much I know to be true" is intresting. He'd always been controversial. Good to hear other voices in this times anyway
This is beautiful and powerful thank you Celia! It also happens to perfectly describe my attitude and how I’ve always chosen to live my life, from my earliest days (rather, honestly, it’s always felt like this attitude *chose* ME -and I’m very, very thankful it did:). Gratitude and joy in all situations - if you can pull that off you’ll be infinitely blessed. And yes, also, being too stubborn to ever let the enemy steal your joy...that is a major victory in itself! Peace and blessings to all here, wonderful community 🙏🏻♥️

Thank you, Celia, for posting Nick Cave on JOY and Hope!
This is exactly what we all need to hear and practice.
