I am in no way excusing the execution of the Romanovs. I am pointing out the context. This was at the tail end of WW1. I don't think it's possible to overestimate the carnage of WW1....it was like the whole of the European continent was laid waste. In Russia alone 2 million soldiers were killed, 3 million were injured and over a million civilians died of starvation and other war related causes.
As I say I am not excusing the barbarity.......only saying that it was a time of general barbarity, the scale of which we cannot comprehend.
Have you seen the photo of the Romanovs on the rooftop ? I bet they cried out -“who killed the Kennedy’s “ when after all- it was you and me...Potemkin House and Garden...(it’s getting late)

As for the Eastern Orthodox Church, I feel it's authorities have also earned their rightful place in the pantheon of cowards and hypocrites. Here in Brooklyn I can not forget the locked entrance doors to the darkened ecclesia on Holy Saturday, April 2020. There are no leaders where there are no individuals of strong conviction.
My mother had a huge “coffee table” book on the Royal Family of Russia (I have in storage). The art, jewelry, antiques, and the beautiful splendor of this family is breathtaking. What they endured and were victims of is seen throughout history.

I found it in my local library in the small farming town I lived in in SoCA. That was my first introduction into the story of The Romanovs. The story fascinated me and over the past 55 years it has lingered in my memory. This short film brought it all back for me. I’m going to revisit the book. They were such a handsome and elegant family.
Is that why Tsar abdicated because the ppl were poor and he wasn’t? Is that why the Bolsheviks came to fruition? Why is there still a belief that Anastasia is still alive? Was Rasputin helping the enemy? I will finish watching. Did Rasputin have an affair with the Tsar’s wife? And Did Nicholas the son ever heal from hemophilia?
Nicholas Romanov’s misrule was undergirded by grinding poverty for the vast majority of peasants, sadistic exploitation of Russia’s nascent working class, periodic pogroms unleashed against the Jews, and two avoidable & unnecessary wars that cost the lives of millions whilst revealing the utter rot that pervaded the Russian aristocracy. It is most regrettable that ‘Nicky’ wasn’t held accountable for his crimes against the Russian people and the captive peoples of his realm.

The labor strikes are organized by the Polish and Jewish engineers. The world accuses us of making pogroms. but I believe that the pogroms are a natural appearance. The Jews wish to dominate over Russia and over the Russian Czars. We defend ourselves. The Minister of the Interior, Trepov, is fighting well. He is doing a holy work. But the Minister Witte is courting the favor of the enemies of Russia, the Jews.'”
The video made me cry, but I thank you for sharing it. There is nothing wrong with feeling our feelings and facing the ugly side of human nature. We need to face it. There is a dark shadow that resides in everyone's psyche. We need to integrate and heal it.
I watched a video interview with Russell Brand and Gabor Mate yesterday from about four years ago. Dr. Mate talked about unresolved childhood trauma that plagues our society. It's so very pervasive, and why we have such a sick and dysfunctional society.
