Does substack count as "social media"?

I don't want a logomachia here. I will simply make the case that substack is not very "social" and not quite a "media" (medium?)

Take twitter, for example. I don't go there. It's one horror after another. No control over what you can filter in or out. They push all the crap on the user optic nerves.

But in twitter, users often abuse one another with their little wars. It's a bridge for sociopaths to abuse honest people.

In substack, there is something of all that, but the user has a lot of control. Substack is mostly textual. Sociopaths seek fast thrills. The textuality of substack is very unappealing to sociopaths. This changed when video and audio was introduced on substack. Many sociopaths suddenly showed up, like bugs in May. That's when substack became more social, more like twitter. But still, it allowed more control. Substack users are less passive, in general, than social media users.

About media, there is an approximate idea of what one can find on twitter, facebook, instagram, etc. There is censorship, editorializing and an covert editorial line. Add to that the obvious two-way contact with political and financial power. That's media.

But substack is not that, for now. There is a bit of censorship, but not a lot. Perhaps the glitches are a weird new form of censorship? Who knows. And there is not yet much editorializing and terrorizing users about the horrible opinions of a substack user and why they should not read that and read the CDC instead or the Cleveland Clinic instead.

Also, there is no obvious bidirectional communication with the commies in charge everywhere. Although, the guys who run substack are kinda commies. Hmmmm.

Malone has attempted again to bad jacket substack and stripe. Which is a very risky business for many publishers. Malone is not very much of an empath here. Of course, I would prefer other payment processors, free of deals with mass-murdering bastards. But there is no such payment processor in this galaxy. It's all controlled, so it doesn't really matter that much, I think. Any thing one tries to do to favor the people you love, the bad guys will get a little money from you. It sucks a lot.

But I see the signs that substack is becoming more like media. And even more social than before. Users are losing a bit of control with software updates. Fabian style.

For me, substack is the place for real people to talk about serious things, with less interference from activists and double agents than in other websites.

Good observations. Substack is definitely my favorite social media, I immediately gravitated towards it when I discovered it during the Covid years 2020-2021. We were able to discuss freely what we observed happening in real-time without worrying about censorship. It’s become slightly more annoying since then, with an increase in bots and trolls and mainstream idiot opinions, but still is pretty great. I don’t do much other social media, never tried Twitter, barely log on to FB, but do use IG for entertainment purposes.

Thanks Celia, for posting both Col. MacGregor but, even more, so Pepe Escobar—no one remotely like him on the US scene, deep knowledge, lots of experience, a range of trusted contacts. Always illuminating. One should keep in mind that the the first freight train connecting China with Iran was dispatched on a 15 day journey on May 25th. It starts in Mongolia, moves across Central Asia, into Iran & down to Mumbai, bypassing the Suez, bypassing the US sanction regime. EURASIA is the continent, not EUROPE or ASIA! The attack on Iran by US attack dog Netanyahu (33 years he's been saying Iran is about to produce nuclear weapons) is about western hegemony & control. If Iran falls to this, Russia is next, followed by China. Perpetual war. I'm more & more convinced that Netanyahu is a double agent, perfect cover for full plausible deniability. The bigger question: who is Trump? If he negotiates in good faith, maybe he goes the way of JFK. If, like Nixon in the '73 war, the Israelis threaten to use the Samson Option, he could either acquiesce or play real chicken: open it up to the people. I doubt that is going to happen, but it's nice to dream. In the meantime, the savagery continues in Gaza & the Israelis shoot & cry. Sickening...

Pepe is a good source because he currently travels among the BRICS and Global South. But even he occasionally falls under the spells of their leadership. MacGregor and Larry Johnson are good because of their past lives inside the beast and both offer keen insight. But because of that past it would be wise to be cautious. But I’ve never heard either say anything that would not be plausible, even if it doesn’t come to pass. And they do throw the bullshit flag often. All are good to inform and formulate your own assessment. They do reinforce the conclusion that things are not as presented by mainstream and many alt media sites. And the vast majority of the population are not informed and easily steered. A dangerous situation.

I respect Col. MacGregor, he has always told us the truth about the Ukraine conflict. But surely he must understand what the Trump strategy and goal is. It's to end the deep state control of America, and other sovereign nations. He wants Iran to be returned to their citizens, who have been under a repressive regime since the overthrow of the Shah in 1979 by the CIA/deep state. He wants the EU to take care of themselves also, and realize that they have an unfounded fear of Russia as an enemy. But the EU has been bent on self-destruction, buying into the green energy scam, and allowing the replacement of its ethnic citizens and culture by people who have no desire to assimilate, and worse.

There are many who have believed for several years that Trump made an Alliance with Russia and Saudi Arabia to assist in abolishing the deep state control of the world, including Ukraine and Iran. And of course ending the corrupt deep state control of Congress and both parties. Not to mention that another of his goals is ending the Federal Reserve, an unconstitutional central bank.

Foremost, an end to the "endless wars".

Since when has any of the regime change wars of the US actually led to "returned to their citizens"? In fact the opposition in Iran has already stated, they don't want any Israel or US led regime change, they want to do it themselves. Some financial, logistic and media support from Western governments would be more than enough help. Not some violent, destructive war.

Strongly agree. I have become an avid follower of Judge Napolitano's show on YouTube every morning typically he interviews 3 to 4 very informative former CIA analysts and/or retired military. This includes but is not limited to Colonel Douglas McGregor and Pepe Escobar as you have mentioned. Also add to that list Scott Ritter retired, marine intelligence officer during desert storm. Also Alistair Crook and retired Colonel Larry Wilkerson. Max Blumenthal is also excellent. The judge has a burgeoning show and his interviews are nothing short of superb.

Intrinsically we know there is a battle going on (and it has been for some time) and we know the ostensible players, but who/what they represent is still obscure.

There is a cosmic context unfolding here, and we are observers of the external manifestations and have the option to internalise the process and define ourselves on a soul level.

In one sense it is simple, in that there is one side that instinctively lies, deceives and will do anything to prevail, and there are the others who seek the truth wherever it is found (to varying degrees of honesty) and have a functional conscience.

Damn, this is what it is like to live in interesting times!

I assert again that the enemy is within as it has always been and the key problem is murder of our own by a fake jab imposed by the real enemy.
