I didn't read that part because I already knew he wouldn't be as blunt as I was. I think the readers need this spelled out for them as it's not common knowledge and Putin didn't even say it out loud.
When you live in the US, you would never hear any of this without being like us.

The history tells a different story. This has been building up for a very long time. In the beginning I too thought this was cover for the Reset, but I don't think so now. I think the reset is real and in process, but this has more to do with the US Pentagon and the powers that run the US empire.
Please do not laugh. Is this a Putin attempt to restore the Motherland which was rooted in Christianity? Does he see the intrusion of US + her allies + many of the NATO countries as a despoiling of the Motherland model? As of 2008, Ukraine and Georgia have been listed as potential NATO countries which will directly border Russia. To the northwest are Estonia and Latvia bordering Russia. Does he fear the importation of unorthodox values of countries which have long abandoned Christianity, countries that are openly immoral / amoral states? He hints at that in his speech.
Whether that is a motive, I don't know. But it's clear the West has invaded Russia many times. Russia has no natural border, and Ukraine means border and is essential as a buffer. Today the US/NATO have supplied Ukraine, after ousting the elected president in 2014, with massive modern weapons to attack eastern border and threaten Russia.

U.S. has been the designated imperialist empire since really the end of world war I, but especially since world war II. NOW we are dealing with the present Russia invading the Ukraine which violates the 1994 agreement Russia signed not to invade the Ukraine after old Russian nuclear weapons were given up by the Ukraine.
