It Is A Christ-ic Idea, After All, To Oppose War, To Transcend Retribution, Not A "Left" Idea: This Has Been Forgotten. Could Pope Leo Revive The Spirit Of Real Christian Peace?
I have never heard a USA president tell God that he loves Him. So, in my book that rates up there at the highest level. Never heard the Pope say that. Takes guts to say that.
I think I am too culturally Protestant to take anything any “Pope” says without supreme suspicion. My instinctual reaction, rightly or wrongly, is, “Who’s this guy in a weird costume telling me how to interpret the Bible and the words of Christ?”
This pope and the last are full of it, coming from a former Catholic who saw through the rhetoric and far too much while I was young! It’s great seeing so many expose themselves. It’s good you have discernment. It’s not because you are Protestant! He’s trying to condemn Trump, he wants us to have open borders, yet he lives behind guarded walls. Trump believes in God! All these people exposing themselves just helps those of us with discernment clean out our inboxes of garbage!
Well, the message is Christ-ic. How did everybody forget the core message of Christ? refusing to retaliate. No eye for eye. New light enters earth. What happened? In Gaza 66 eyes for one eye. Not enough.
Let's also look at Matthew 18:6 -- it would be better for someone to have a large millstone tied around their neck and be drowned in the sea than to cause a believer, especially a child, to stumble or sin.
In my 12 years of Catholic Schooling and Church at least once or twice per week, I don't recall a single priest talking about this wisdom from Jesus. Maybe it's because the Catholic Church is a pedophile organization - just as the Vatican watcher/reporter Leo Zagami who told Alex Jones several years ago on Camera "the Vatican is at the center of child-trafficking worldwide."
The disciples are told to NOT bring a staff in Matthews's gospel (10:9-10), which pre-dates Luke. In fact, he warns them of the risks they are about to take - including physical harm and death. BUT, he also adds "Do not be afraid of those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul." (10:28)
Luke 22 : 35 And he said unto them, When I sent you without purse, and scrip, and shoes, lacked ye anything? And they said, Nothing.
36 Then said he unto them, But now, he that hath a purse, let him take it, and likewise his scrip: and he that hath no sword, let him sell his garment, and buy one.
37 For I say unto you, that this that is written must yet be accomplished in me, And he was reckoned among the transgressors: for the things concerning me have an end.
38 And they said, Lord, behold, here are two swords. And he said unto them, It is enough.
Marvellous Dr Rothuizen study on ''turn the other cheek'' ,needed since WW2 NL was around 43% NSB ,although ''lippendienst'' was ubiquitous ,as a means of literal resistance . Seen the film ''De Zwarte Boek?''
Only a very few were willing to actually do anything beyond interpassivity - still a black hole in dutch consciousness .
Incidentally-
The mores of always turning the other cheek get tangled when Iranians are expected to forgive CIA .
I haven't heard this Pope promote open borders, but I have heard him promote mercy and love toward immigrants - legal or illegal. That is what we should expect - and desire - to hear from a Christian.
Instead of leading with 'suspicion' perhaps you should aim to take his words at face value and analyze the actual content of his message. It's ALWAYS good to question, but do so in a sincere manner (with an open mind) seeking truth, no matter where it leads you. And 'who's this guy..'? He is the successor of Peter the Apostle, who was/is the 'rock' of Christ's Church - who, despite being a sinful human being with human faults, takes on the ministry of uniting members of the Body and determines what to 'bind and loose' on earth.
Faithful Catholics are divided over this - some suggesting it does not fulfill the parameters of a Just War. I, a Catholic, scratch my head over this one. Is it a war or an opening salvo?
Marco Rubio laid it out twice in Sunday interviews. Part of the Intel (detailed intel we don’t have access to in our barcaloungers) indicated that non-trust-and-verified uranium enrichment (at 60%) conducted in an Iranium underground complex was ongoing and potentially a week away from a nuclear warhead. Peaceful usage of enriched uranium is a fraction of the 60%. Why is this not open and verifiable?
Imagine carrying the weight of this knowledge. That your 360M citizens might be endangered by religious zealots who repeatedly declare “Death to America.” Easy when we scan online articles, watch podcasts, and tap our opinions in the comfort of air-conditioned dens.
Did Leo contact DJT before sharing his X opinion? One can hope so, but not necessarily. These are complex times with complex evil.
DJT not a Christian?? We know he is the master of keeping his cards close to his vest. He’s “Keep-em-guessing” Donald. That way no one will know what he is up to. Good position to be in. What president has said this?: "And in particular, God, I want to just say, we love you God, and we love our great military.” This is the president who has surrounded himself with Christians. Let’s just take a breath, drop back five yards, and punt the ball.”
The death to America chants, and the fact that this is a religiously motivated death to America/death to Israel regime; that doesn’t really inspire a lot of confidence
Trump doesn't have to be a "christian" to acknowledge a Higher Power, and a Creator. Trump has firm principles based on Biblical principles and the Ten Commandments, as he understands them. And he is a MAN, he is not a preacher or a pacifist. He is the leader of the USA, and is an Alpha Male to boot.
clip of the entire thing, you would see exactly what he did, and why, and you’d hear what he said about the whole thing. The editing of that moment in time was beyond the pale. The reality was the polar
opposite of what was
portrayed for days and days. That was when I began actively seeking out entire speeches of his, and knew at once
that the corrupt (paid off

media would always twist themselves into pretzels to portray everything — EVERYTHING Trump and RFK, Jr. ever said or did, in a bad light.
I played it at 1/2 speed and 1/4 speed and he says "I'm a Christian." the CC writes incorrectly that he says 'I am not a Christian' so Google changed his words, wonder why? Lip read it too and see that he says he is a Christian.
Using the word advisedly, I hope the leader of the Catholic Church now Crusading for peace remembers that the people who need to listen AREN’T!
Centuries ago the Catholic Church faced the same Islamic enemy and had to use violence to quell its surge and reclaim the Holy Land for Catholicism.
I hope the lessons of the Catholic Church’s Crusades from the 12th through 14th Centuries haven’t been lost on the Catholic hierarchy of the 21st century.

If Pope Leo doesn’t speak out actively for Christianity, Europe will be speaking Arabic by the middle of this century!
The word Islam means submission. With the option of submission or death, there is a little room left for love. The Christians of eight centuries ago figured this out.
The last 10 years of Muslim migration into Europe suggests that this principle of survival seems no longer operative in Christendom.
The Christian's call to love is irrespective of the other's belief/action/etc. Christian love (agape in Greek) as taught in the NT and practiced by Jesus and the early Church is not dependent on whether the other person(s) is 'worthy' of love. The Christian is called to love (agape) in every circumstance because that is what Jesus calls us to do - for the sake of Love itself (Himself). This is unconditional love, which is understandably 'impossible' for man, but not for God - which is why we must tirelessly repent, pray, and study God's Word in order to be open enough to allow God's grace to work in/through us. Jesus' example in his passion showed us vividly that there is a greater value than even human life itself - love (agape). We must be willing to lose our lives rather than turn to violence/aggression toward others.
If germ theory is false and there are no contagious diseases of any type —a very very minoritarian opinion at the present day— then we see how all major political organizations (including Universities) of the world and all States and everything in between just happen to believe the opposite and they operate normally.
So, hoax or not, the nukes is not an isolated case of multitudes of humans believing propaganda.
There are many cases, in history and in the present.
Humans operate normally from ignorance and error. The results speak for themselves.
But it's also useful to question one's convictions from time to time, just a bit. In our case, it seems that nuclear bombs operate on the principle of self-sustaining chain reaction of fissible radioactive material. What a mouthful. But, is that chain reaction possible, at all? If we show it's not possible, then our belief that nukes are fake is reinforced. But if that chain reaction is possible, for exmaple, for producing water vapor for turbines in nuclear power plants, then we have to say that nuclear bombs are, in principle, possible. But, do they work, at all? It's a very curiuous topic. Some people get very very angry with this. I mean, what's wrong with asking questions?
Your body makes bacteria to attack specific cells that have been damaged. It doesn't come from the outside. I can lick every toilet in the world, and nothing will happen except a raw tongue. You can't take an infection from one part of the body and put it on another part, and make it transmit. That's not to say there isn't bioengineered bacterium that cause issues.
Yeah like LYMES disease bioWeapon viral/ bacterial infused created in a lab and released not as intended but still causes lots of harm to humans .... denied by our government for years finally truth exposed « BITTEN »
The number of victims in Dresden seems to have been revised down. Kurt Vonnegut, who was there, beneath the stage, says in the introduction of his novel "Mother Night": "135,00 Hansels and Gretels had been baked like gingerbread men."
But that number is reduced to 25,000 by someone in wikipedia. Perhaps, they mean only 25,000 people survived? But after 4,000 tons of bombs, more than 200,000 apartments were destroyed. That city was like a safe place for civilians and had no military objectives.
Vonnegut tells (perhaps invents) that there was "a factory that made a vitamin-enriched malt syrup for pregnant women. It tasted like honey laced with hickory smoke. It was good. I wish I had some right now."
So much damage done, to so many people, in only minutes, only with "regular" bombs, nothing special. Had they had the A-bomb ready in February 1945, maybe there had been no Kurt Vonnegut at all, and all the hundreds of American troops that were held captive in Dresden had been sacrificed too.
Michael Palmer's book Hiroshima Revisited tells Hiroshima was just like Dresden. An American Doctor visited Hiroshima after the bombing, and took notes. Maybe it was him who started the "there was no atomic bomb on Hiroshima" story. Since the American Military always has to control both sides of every story, I imagine the mission of the doctor was to say everything was normal, not extraordinary. Who knows!
Most likely true, the controllers have lied to us about everything, covid, vaccines, Gulf of Tonkin, monkey pox, explosion of the USS Maine, central bank reserve notes are government issued money, etc., etc. Why would make an exception with nukes?
It's a reasonable hope that a Pope may start doing Christic things, for a change.
The Eastern Orhtodox seem... self-centered? I mean no offense. I understand prefectly well the tendency to reject the body and the world, or most of it, and the desire to focus on simplicity and mental things.
I think the Orthodox got the priest marriage thing right. And, curiously, the protestants and the Anglicans recovered that tradition. Maybe it's time for the Catholics do that too?
And, with little changes like that, maybe the three big groups of Christian churches/religions can form alliances.
And maybe the lefty/liberal/green/watermelons in all three can tone it down a notch or two, and let people heal from the trauma of the hyper-politicization of these past years.
I think it's bad for children to be exposed to politics so much, and to be used politically. And the religions have used children in that way, because the last 30 years have been of extreme politics, with very few interludes or respites.
Folks, this ain't normal!
I don't consider myself a Catholic. My dad was a Catholic. He was very close to becoming a Priest in 1946, after his initial studies of theology in Rome. He couldn't become a priest. Then, life happened, and after many ups and downs, I was his last son, born in 1984.
I consider myself closer to Catholicism than Buddhism, for example. And Buddhism has some good things, and good people are Buddhists. And I like some things said by the Protestants. And some things of the "Restorationists." And some things of the Orthodox. Overall, I would prefer a European government by the Catholic Church rather than the EU, which is a Satanic organization through and through, at least as Satanic as Karl Marx himself. Maybe the Catholic church is only 6.66% Satanic. I can live with that!
I like your "Christ-ic Idea". Appropriate term! There is a lot of that going around. There is too much of that going around. Will it revive "Peace"??? Being very skeptical (I have watched this for too many years) about these things... I expect this is just "Christ-ic" Posturing... as usual.
not sure what you mean by "posturing"? The Pope is "posturing"? For what, and why? He doesn't have control over Trump, Satanyahu, or Iran. He is calling for diplomacy and peace. I don't see how that is posturing. I believe most of us want the same thing: diplomacy and peace.
I’m a bible reader, myself. I don’t look to a robe wearer to interpret it for me. I have a direct relationship with Jesus. I don’t put a robed man on a pedestal, literally nor
figuratively. I pray straight to God Almighty, in Jesus’ name, just as it’s taught in the bible, as the Lord’s Prayer. I do not pray to nor through Mary, bc it isn’t mentioned in the bible ever to do so. She’s blessed among women of course, but nowhere does it say to
pray to her, nor to pray a rosarie, not to
pray for the dead. Nowhere does it say certain clergy need little red shoes nor gigantic hats, nor collect statues of Mary, nor pay for sins to be absolved. Loads of the stuff done in the name of Catholicism is never mentioned in scripture, therefore, I am the furthest thing from Catholic.
I’m not maligning them; I’m simply stating why I in no way would be one.
For that reason, and many more, I can’t be concerned about what this poor says.
IF there’s a bully on my back deck stating repeatedly that my child or even my dog is the GREAT SATAN, and that their main goal
in life is to obliterate my kid or my dog, I firmly believe that if the 1-2 minutes of negotiation I may afford that nilly don’t work, that I am well within my
rights to, at the very least, take away whatever arrows and slingshots or guns said bully may possess. I mean, it’s my
kid! It’s my dog! You hate me and you have weapons to prove that!
BTW, reading the actual
bible there are actual times wherein people GOD LOVED and ADORED prayed to Him about whether to go to war and guess what? He sometimes said YES.
What are your credentials for interpreting the Bible for yourself (or anyone else)? Are you educated in Hebrew, Aramaic, and Koine greek? And do you realize that the ORIGINAL biblical scrolls and manuscripts no longer exist? So, in fact, how do you know you are reading the ACTUAL word(s) of God? Just some questions to ponder...
That's good to know, as many people just pick up the sacred writings and begin interpreting it as if it was written within our time and culture. So, although you don't look for a 'robe wearer to interpret', you do in fact look to another individual for guidance and insight who is more educated in the texts than yourself. This is also the role that the magisterial Church assumes for the faithful. It does not dictate how to interpret every single passage of the text and impose that on the faithful; the magisterium is forever 'plumbing the depths' of God's Word for deeper understanding. That said, it nevertheless remains the authority to interpret Scripture so as to proclaim God's truth in matters of faith and morals.
choose to have a learned man help at times; however I believe he reads the word daily as he has it memorized front to back. No
pope
ever shows that depth nor commitment.
I stand by my comments. Priests and popes seem
to read their bible very little. This pope just acted like the only thing Christians should ever so is be peaceful. They haven’t read the words from God, “Blessed are you, who teaches my
hands to war and my
fingers to fight” and ao
on. David, a man after God’s own heart, was a soldier. Jael drove a tent leg into the temple of an enemy soldier. God told HIS people to
fight, plea ty if times. The pope admonishing this and speaking only
I agree that some clergy do not devote themselves to Scripture as they should, but the great majority read/study Scripture daily as it's part of their daily responsibilities as ministers of the Word. Regarding the OT, I don't discount the stories of God commanding Israel to fight; however, remember that God commanded them - it was not their prerogative to determine it. It's clear in the NT that Jesus is non-violent - the Sermon on the Mount makes that visibly clear. I don't see how love your enemy can be interpreted as kill your enemy.
Sometimes loving your own people trumps what happens to your enemy. The boarder is a comparison. I feel for many of the people trying to get to the USA and trying to stay after having been here for years. I simply have more
compassion for
those citizens of the USA that are being harmed by the others.
I feel for people who are gender confused or even tranny but I feel
much more strongly that little
kids shouid not have to deal with the opposite sex in public bathrooms. I care for them, but not at the expanse of our kids.
Even children can understand the Scriptures and believe on Jesus Christ to be saved. The young can keep their way clean and pure by the Word ................. Psalm 119 : 9 Wherewithal shall a young man cleanse his way? by taking heed thereto according to thy word.
10 With my whole heart have I sought thee: O let me not wander from thy commandments.
11 Thy word have I hid in mine heart, that I might not sin against thee.
12 Blessed art thou, O Lord: teach me thy statutes.
I'm sure they can understand SOME scripture, but limited (depending on age and educational level). Context is critical in understanding ANY text, religious or not.
God gave context, read your Bible from beginning to the end. You are talking to someone who have heard and understood the Bible and has been loving God for it from I can remember as a toddler. The preachings never held my attention as a small child, but I experienced God's living Word as living from when I can remember. No one is going to make me believe I need another expert who probably have an agenda to 'understand' the Scriptures. Deut 11 : '19 And ye shall teach them your children, speaking of them when thou sittest in thine house, and when thou walkest by the way, when thou liest down, and when thou risest up.' God made us to understand from childhood. His Word is not limited. That would suite people who manipulate others. Thank God he made us that way, that is why no one has an excuse to be evil.
The teachings of Christ are perfect. But those who
represent His Church are not--some may even be deliberately corrupt.
Christ is Head of the Church and the baptized and confirmed faithful comprise its Body. One attempts to heal defective or injured body parts or to surgically remove them as a last resort but always without destroying the functioning body.
Here is a truly Good Shepherd leading his flock, adhering to the Deposit of Faith, but respectfully asking sound and timely questions, praying for all, and reminding the faithful our goal as Catholics: to follow Christ--the goodness and truth of God--even to the point of death if need be.
I have never heard a USA president tell God that he loves Him. So, in my book that rates up there at the highest level. Never heard the Pope say that. Takes guts to say that.
Yeah, but Trump at least said "God bless Israel", right?
Ain't that good enough these days?

Why would make an exception with nukes?

the Pope's comments, however sincere his conviction, will have zero effect on the warmongers. wish it were otherwise.
So not Roger the dodger ,then ?
Shame - I had hoped ..
You dont write like someone born in 1984.
LOL!
This Pope speaks Italian with a Spanish accent. I understand 99% of what he's saying. When Italians speak fast, I only get about 50%.
I bet he speaks better Spanish than the former pope Francis, hehehe.
I like your "Christ-ic Idea". Appropriate term! There is a lot of that going around. There is too much of that going around. Will it revive "Peace"??? Being very skeptical (I have watched this for too many years) about these things... I expect this is just "Christ-ic" Posturing... as usual.
I don't get the sense he is posturing. At all.
That’s okay! Like everything else, we watch and see.
not sure what you mean by "posturing"? The Pope is "posturing"? For what, and why? He doesn't have control over Trump, Satanyahu, or Iran. He is calling for diplomacy and peace. I don't see how that is posturing. I believe most of us want the same thing: diplomacy and peace.
I can’t ignore history. We have a new pope. This is the one who will be different??? The jury is still out! Again… we wait and see… with reservations.
Including DJT.
Agree.
Gaza mentioned?
Yes.
My credentials? I can read, and have excellent comprehension. I study with a pastor who is highly
educated in all 3 of the original
languages.
I have no proof that my old King James is perfect but I’d bet my
last dollar that it is, as the scriptures say in 2 places, “Divinely
appointed and inspired for the edification of and knowledge…”
I don’t have to have clergy
to
interpret. I believe the word
was
written for everyone, and God will help you
learn it is
you ask. I simply
choose to have a learned man help at times; however I believe he reads the word daily as he has it memorized front to back. No
pope
ever shows that depth nor commitment.
The pope admonishing this and speaking only
of peace—is not sound advice this WAS peace.
Wrong on so many levels .
So you blithely ignore Lev 25:23 ?
Every breath of your fetid ; entrenched ; large language model is based on absolute ownership - mentioned nowhere in the bible -
Get thee to a nunnery .
😝 Ok.
Lev. 25:23 “The land is not to be sold forever, for you are strangers and sojourners with me” That scripture?
I’m not sure how that applies.
And you’ll not see me in a nunnery unless I decide to do some
charitable works with them for whatever reason.
