That picture was taken in a pub in Austin TX, USA. I was in it last year, but living 2000 miles from Austin, will be there in 3 weeks with that picture. Thanks
6:18 ". . . . and we do undertaking which would be synonymous with the bar business". To my provincial ear that sounds like drink till you drop.
An Irishman accustomed to ordering four pints at a time to salute his faraway kin would take a sip from each mug until they were all empty. Addressing the curious barkeep, taking sips, "this one's for me brother in Australia, this one's for me brother in New Zealand, this one's for me brother in The States and this one's for me self". Then one day a month later his order was but three wee pints. I'm so sorry, lad, did you lose a brother, asked the barkeep. "Hardly", came the reply. "This one's for me brother in OZ, this one's for me Kiwi kin, this one's for Seamus in The States and as for me self, well, I don't drink any more :- )
... link doesn't work, say's unavailable in your country (Ireland lol!) it's on YT... no, i haven't been drinking!...they don't even know what being really drunk is like...even if u were, the crowd today would bore u sober...jayz, maybe I have been been drinking!... https://youtu.be/usY0GcNM7pg?si=Z1E5mFb3MkGgytEz ...
...thanks for the heads up, i didn't watch yet!... our country is being destroyed and is unrecognizable, our folk are different, hard going to talk to,...
Being from Ireland I have to agree that there is something very special about the traditional Irish Pub, as opposed to the artificial Irish pub concept put together like lego in most countries. The documentary featured a few but there is a plethora of them all over the country. When I lived in Dublin Mulligans was always a good meeting spot on Fridays and they did a great pint all right!!
Celia--thanks for the recommendation. I would like to recommend Wim Wender's film Perfect Days for any who have not seen it. This film is a celebration of joy in everyday living. I cannot recommend it strongly enough!
There were still some great old bars in Ireland last time I went, but the smoking ban changed a lot of the character of these places just after.
The war on the pub in the UK has been full on over the last 20 years where there are very few 'real' pubs left. Today they are Bistro's where most attending do so for a meal and these places really frown upon drinkers and provide little space for those who just want a drink.
The smoking ban also drove a stack through the heart of pub culture and it was a deliberate design of the Fabian Socialists who hate the working classes and any vestige of their culture.
Today most pubs are soulless places.
They look great but there is no time or opportunity for the things that made pubs great as described in the video. Camaraderie, conversation and discussion - and great beer! The community pub has been priced out of existence, deliberately so.

…with a snug for reciting a Willy Yeats poem to your pal or lover, or for having a quiet conversation. A pint of Kilkenny is my choice. Cheers!
Snugs, not drugs !
