I saw The Village People in California few years back. When YMCA came on, there wasn’t one person in the audience who didn’t get up and dance. Young and old were shimmying. Watching Trump dance puts a huge smile on my face.

The first time I heard and saw YMCA was on American Bandstand, I was in 6th grade. We didn't know it was a gay Anthem. It had a good beat and you could dance to it.

Yes, it's a very gay song, promoting the YMCA as a place young men can go for anal sex without mentioning the gay epidemic of anal warts or AIDS.

The Village People were about as gay as a band can possibly get. Maybe even gayer. The group's name refers to Manhattan's gay neighborhood of Greenwich Village.

"Founder Jacques Morali died of complications related to AIDS in Paris on November 15, 1991."

Amen. Happiness, joy, laughter. All things darkness hates. It's good for you. Plus I have found that libbies hate you being happy. Wish them a great day with a big smile. 😄😄😄

gay orgies? really Celia? I think you need a gay pal to raise your consciousness. it's embarrassing. but this is part of Reconstruction. the gays that went left because they wanted to get married must be welcomed into the Trump big tent. and the Trumpers have to get with it. let's get together and dance like we were gay men pre-AIDS. pre-Fauci. ultimately, this is the RIFT we are in the process of healing.

"YMCA" was about 1980s gay-bath-house culture having spread to the dormitories of the Young Men's Christian Association, which caused the organization to eliminate this low-cost-lodging service.

"It's fun to stay at the Y-M-C-A..."

YMCA is about disco. it's about NYC pre-AIDS. it's about the subculture running the culture. yeah, man, look around and see all the gays creating all the culture. get hip, daddy.

the actual Y was the place to stay when you landed in NYC — man, woman, gay straight — I even smuggled my cat in, haha. that was back when we were halfway civil to each other. let's bring back the joy.

I work out at a great YMCA here in town. Been going to Ys for 50 years. The management at this one seems a bit over the top about promoting woke ideals, but I don’t care it’s still a super facility and nobody hassles anyone about mandating their loony leftist beliefs.

Dancing this morning- thanks Celia!

In 1977 and 1978, probably not quite yet. I believe they eventually isolated virus from NYC blood samples that had been stored in 1980.

Their gay stuff came out in the late 1970s. YMCA came out in 1978. Plenty of Ys continued offering lodging, but many got out of the business over time.

We didn't know as schoolkids in the 1970s, but you're a 59 year old New Yorker. You know about the song is about. Why claim otherwise?

Now tell me that you still think, "In the Navy" is about just ... the Navy. And "Macho Man" is just about wanting to be masculine.

It's funny to me that YMCA is known to be tied to CIA: C.I.A. Officer Philip Agee claims the C.I.A. used YMCA locations to hire and train young agents with one being John Lennon's assassin Mark David Chapman who was found at a YMCA in Georgia then sent to Beirut Lebanon for assassin programming under the guise of a YMCA program. https://covertactionmagazine.com/2023/12/08/what-three-letters-of-the-alphabet-link-john-lennons-murder-to-the-murders-of-john-f-kennedy-and-robert-kennedy/

Most likely the Dakota doorman - an "ex"-CIA assassin - did the Lennon hit. Chapman was a patsy. Like so many others in CIA hits.

Aw shoot ..... I just read the comments and have to say I never associated this with gay anything and I don't give a hoot if The Village People/band are gay ! Years ago I lived in "The Village"/NYC, & sure wasn't gay then or now, but just love the "get up and dance" spirit it invokes. The gays can't own songs, rainbows anymore than the Cabal can own numbers, animals or US! Time to take back HAPPY.

It's only funny to me if Trump never went to Epstein Island, does not implement pandemic 2.0 (along with all of the other depop great reset agendas; dubious at best since Ramaswamy and Vance are now there), and is not some type of anti-Christ figure. So, I guess I don't find it funny, even though I struggle inside with conflicting perspectives about Trump, and am also relieved that "Kamala" can now apparently go away forever. It's all very difficult.

well, YMCA is not about gay orgies, necessarily. Gay hook ups at the Y? sure. and the Village People in their stereotypical outfits/costumes were so camp and so fun. We used to at least be able to dance and sing dumb songs just for the hell of it. (1978) Glad to read poster below went and revived the experience. We all had that song in our brains at one time. iconic gay anthem beloved by all. it was a break thru moment in time (wasn't Harvey Milk in F politics around then? yep 1978)... gays were coming out and there was some acceptance and some culture shock,,, It's fun to stay at the Y M C A
