Celia, you are a breath of fresh air to this weary soul. You are a blessing to so many. May Jesus hold us close in this time of chaos, not so different from the world at the time of his birth. Merry Christmas to you and your family.
Merry Christmas Celia and this community. Love Love Love. Nothing fills my heart more than hearing children laugh and or sing. So sweet. Now back to “TUQUiTUQUiTUQUi TUQUiTUQUiTA” It’s on repeat!
A new Hallmark Movies and Mysteries movie is on with a Maryanne, a Joe, an adopted baby and Joe's dog named Donkey called A Miracle in Bethlehem, PA but filmed in Winnipeg. It was very sweet and one of them that I can see over and over.
Love the drums and all the people in the square. This is Christmas! Merry and most joyful and blessed Christmas Celia and everyone. Grateful. Dona Nobis Pacem.
Mary Christmas, Celia!🎄My Facebook account has been hacked and I can no longer send you private messages so let me use this space to let you know that I am well and still playing music in Osaka. By the way, James Corbett came to my gig the other day and made a video about his visit to a community garden he visited the following day. Here’s a link to it and you can see me just for 20 seconds or so from 6:30.
I’m sorry but I just deleted the former comment because I realized it might not be safe to leave my email address there. I leave the link to my Facebook page instead.
regarding your insight, “Christmas is a frequency of… innocence, I think—that’s why it’s so important to people. Not because of the “commercialism.” It’s about the loving, hopeful souls of children.”… Bingo!!
My favorite Bible passage, paraphrasing the Essene (?) Nazarene in Gospel of Mark, Chapter 10:15, “to enter the kingdom of heaven, you gotta have that little kid (theta wave) mindset”. Yes, “hopeful, loving” and full of wonder, curiosity and adventure! Does it get any juicier than that?!
fave Christmas song, Phil Ochs “Ballad of the Carpenter”… “but the dreams of this poor carpenter/ remains in the hands of you/ remains in the hands of you…”. Much to consider as we enter 2024. Happiest New Year! Your energy and your voice is greatly appreciated.
Thank you Celia for the lovely song and all your good wishes. I had a Christmas miracle on winter solstice day. Here I was, 73 years old, driving alone 500 miles to my grandchildren on a California freeway in the pouring rain with my trunk full of gifts and cookie-making fixings. Less than a third of the way toward my destination, two guardian angels--young men in other cars that passed me, gave me a sign something was wrong, so I took the very next freeway exit, which happened to be right by an auto repair facility. I drove into it, got out of my car and saw that one of my tires was desperately low on air and on the verge of a blow out. (I hadn't noticed anything was wrong myself while driving) So got it fixed and on my way within a couple hours. Good people are all around us.....
Long ago my family traveled by bus from Mexico City to Acapulco, passing through Taxco where a group of children with a burro, Joseph and Mary were reenacting Los Posada with all the children but the principals tweeting them along with their bird whistles. That night with the rural people walking to church and the view of Acapulco’s brightly lit bay appearing around a curve in the road at midnight, accompanied by mountain fragrances and the distant sound of mariachis will forever be imprinted on my memory.
Merry Christmas to you and your family.
And Merry Christmas to everyone here on substack.
There are so many villancicos that children repeat over and over. Best night of the year, for most people.
Christmas for grown-ups is bitter sweet.
I try to recreate the magic of my childhood christmasses for my kids. But the absence of those who have passed weighs heavy.
Also I think grown ups grieve for the innocence of childhood.

Doesn't (but forgiven)...
