I’m 60 in a couple of weeks, and I still remember this song when I was a child in my first years.

I sing this when my cat goes outside-lol!

Absolutely beautiful, thank you Celia.

Is this movie about a zoo? That's not how I remember it. They lived with the lions, and then Elsa left to start a family, no?

Listen: My mother never took us to zoos or circuses and I never took my son to zoos or circuses so no argument!

Elsa was feeding milk in a bottle to the cubs. Lion milk is for baby lions. What kind of milk was Elsa feeding the cubs? I would bet it was cow milk. Why did Elsa have to feed the cubs milk from a bottle? Arrogance? Yes, Human arrogance….

What I saw, humans behaving like colonizers. Humans colonize other humans, and so with the Animal Kingdom. Animals do not need Humans to live Freely on mother Earth….

Stop the EXPLOITATION of all Animals>>>>

I don't think that's what the movie was about. I pray that I'm correct.

Love Matt Monro. As good as or better than Frankie Sinatra! Thanks, Celia.

I wondered why you had posted this until I watched the video and listened to the words. The freedom of both Elsa and George and Joy Adamson is a remnant of better days and actually triggered tears.

I was born in Tanzania although I can remember little. However, the song conjures up some of the freedom of living in the big continent. It is also a moving tribute to the big cats. What made me nostalgic was the sincerity, simple longing of the song's lyrics and Matt Munroe's poignant rendition. Popular music now tends to be cynical or ironic or self-conscious or materialistic or a combination of them.

To domesticate wild animals, is to extinguish the animal’s natural born capacity to LIVE freely and enjoy independence…

When Government assumes the role as the surrogate Parent of the people, citizens will love to be dependent on the “government.” The spirit of being independent is replaced with addictive dependence on government….

No way I want to be dependent on the gov't. Everything they try to do fails. They should go back to building roads, etc. Get out of medicine and shots of all kinds.

Although we give lip service to the notion of freedom, we know government is no longer the servant of the people but, at last, has become the people’s master. We have stood by like timid sheep while the wolf killed—the weak, then the strays, then those on the outer edges of the flock, until at last the entire flock belonged (owned) to the WOLVES.
