It's not really about ideology, or if it is, it's about a dark and evil ideology that most of us can't comprehend.
It's about censorship, surveillance, and enforcement. Celia is right: ultimately it's about power. That's what censorship and surveillance can achieve.
If we look at what we're fighting it comes down to censorship and surveillance. If we simplify things it's easier for the person in the street to comprehend, and the hour is getting late so we need to reach the person in the street.
You're right, of course, that is where the rubber meets the road--the actual force inflicted upon us. But what is motivating it? These are not automatons (not yet, anyway) so we have to ask about human motivations. I say what's motivating them is bad ideas. These people have adopted some awful, destructive belief systems about what is true and right, amongst them Malthusian thought, socialism and Marxist class struggle, corporate fascism, anti-human Gaiaism, etc... all of which make happy bedfellows since they all agree that the problem with the world is "humans living in freedom", for which they also happily agree on the remedy... the boot on our necks.
Ideas matter. We can fight against coercion all day, but unless someone is also fighting destructive ideas, they will subtly take hold in our universities, in corporations, in governments, and there will be no stopping them. This has already happened, of course, which is why we are where we are, and those of us countering the cultural narrative are well aware that we were almost too late to the dance.
It’s group identity and the promises of a safer, secure and inclusive utopian where the main goal is to save the planet from the capitalist greed that have been destroying it. Once people become associated with this agenda, their upbringing in the schools, communities and family influences of social Justice takeover and they all join in as soldiers of this fake war.
People are seduced by the idea of the necessity of collective action to save the planet from CO2 catastrophe. But, there is no CO2 catastrophe. Which points to the huge amount of work we need to do because people many people insist that "the science says." Still, OK, if that's so, then can this so-called science stand up to the strictest scrutiny, and why have so many predictions been wrong? This is another can of worms I've tried to tackle.
Personally, I can handle the CO2 question, if pressed. But it seems that more important now are simple questions of governance. The government is censoring information. All tyrannies have called the opposition "misinformation": this is nothing new. People have to see this.
What I'm trying to say is that yes, all of this analysis and thought amongst ourselves is good and necessary, but this is far, far beyond people who are naive about how corrupt things have become, and it seems there have to be ways to get this corruption across simply and clearly.

People can understand how a free society depends on open debate and they can understand how debate is now being censored if specific instances are pointed out (for example, video of January 6 is being censored.) People can understand that this isn't right.

Fair point, Jim. If I'm reading you right, you're saying people can understand wrongdoing on a visceral level even though they might not understand the reasons behind it, and they can be appealed to on that level, without ever getting into the deeper ideas at work. That was certainly true of vax mandates, where many people were all on board with jabbing themselves, but found themselves repulsed by the idea of forcing others to do so.

So that's the trick: how do we get people to think for themselves without getting OUR selves torn to pieces? The Socratic Method, the subtle use of questions to get the person thinking on their own, can be very difficult. But I think your questions are a good example.
The issue will be whether they cheat steal or lie to stay in power and push us over the edge to where we are on our knees without the resources or will to argue or fight back. I think most people have turned away from this utopian vision and want to get back to normal life.

I almost think it has been black listed for schools, on the quiet, hush hush, wink wink.
It was compulsory reading in year 7 for me in the 80-90s era. So in NSW, Aus, most 13-14 year olds had read it, and knew what "Big Brother" and "more equal" meant.
Nowadays I drop a "more equal" comment and early 20 year olds give me a blank expression, like they do not understand the quote, or the reference I am making.

The Wizard of Oz used to be aired every year on broadcast TV, all the way into the 1990's. It's where the term, "man behind the curtain" comes from. The movie stopped being shown on TV but became a classic to many youth when it was paired with Pink Floyd's Dark Side of the Moon in place of the dialogue. That's all many young people know it for, it's kinda neat how it fits.
But it's an important classic movie because it taught us to understand that rulers use illusion as a means to power and control. And that if we have courage, heart and a brain we can break free from the illusions spun by wizards and sorcerers. We just have to pull back the curtain to expose the weak, pathetic people in power and their machine of levers, buttons and pulleys that create the illusion. A work doesn't have to be blacklisted to hide it from the people. When just nullifying its important message with frivolity will do.
As to the book, 1984, which is what I meant to tie in to my other reply, it was required reading for me, too, I think 9th grade. We were the class of 1984. The teacher made sure we understood it.

Nabbed a copy for my 12 year old at a good old fashioned used book store. Gotta educate our own babes. A Wrinkle in Time by Mary Engel is another good one in this vein.
Last time I called library looking for classics for my son’s summer reading they didn’t have any. The librarian literally said to me, “These are all so old. We get rid of old books so we can have room for the new ones.” I nearly cried. I used to Love libraries. We need to be the librarians now.
It follows the style of "Nineteen eighty four" but with modern technology elements.

I had been throw in with this group of pcr testing HIV individuals who were set up without symtoms and told to swallow thousands of dollars worth of med's forever. Around 1966 Rod Serling brought back the Twilight Zone in a one hour time slot and in living color (remember that craze). One episode was most memorable - I group of young people who were very dissatisfied with the way things were going started gathering in rallies to listen to a fellow who spoke powerful words that stirred them up. As the story unfolds we see him meeting with his mentor, an older man who’s face remained hidden until the last scene where he convinces the younger to carry on and lead the charge for the greater good. When the camera finally shows that the old man Hitler, I can still remember the goose bumps I felt. It’s always the same playbook and the same tricks that are used to distract us from God given quest to be free. Maybe we’ll finally learn to not fall for them.

Spot on and a great follow up! The tired arguments about how it hasn't been done correctly are just idiotic at this point. Every form of socialism and communism, from cavemen huddling around fires sharing berries, to hippie communes to totalitarian Soviets/Chinese -- and everything in between -- has been exhaustively done.
Since there has been any form of government, all forms of socialism and communism end up becoming what we have seen, i.e., the antithesis of freedom and unimaginable inhumanity.
How Christians or any spiritual people allow themselves to be socialist/communist is baffling and incomprehensible. People can understand how a free society depends on open debate and they can understand how debate is now being censored if specific instances are pointed out (for example, video of January 6 is being censored.) People can understand that this isn't right.

Fair point, Jim. If I'm reading you right, you're saying people can understand wrongdoing on a visceral level even though they might not understand the reasons behind it, and they can be appealed to on that level, without ever getting into the deeper ideas at work. That was certainly true of vax mandates, where many people were all on board with jabbing themselves, but found themselves repulsed by the idea of forcing others to do so.

So that's the trick: how do we get people to think for themselves without getting OUR selves torn to pieces? The Socratic Method, the subtle use of questions to get the person thinking on their own, can be very difficult. But I think your questions are a good example.
The issue will be whether they cheat steal or lie to stay in power and push us over the edge to where we are on our knees without the resources or will to argue or fight back. I think most people have turned away from this utopian vision and want to get back to normal life.

I have not seen "1984" in any school book lists for him, or for other people's kids for easy over a decade now.
I almost think it has been black listed for schools, on the quiet, hush hush, wink wink.
It was compulsory reading in year 7 for me in the 80-90s era. So in NSW, Aus, most 13-14 year olds had read it, and knew what "Big Brother" and "more equal" meant.
Nowadays I drop a "more equal" comment and early 20 year olds give me a blank expression, like they do not understand the quote, or the reference I am making.

The Wizard of Oz used to be aired every year on broadcast TV, all the way into the 1990's. It's where the term, "man behind the curtain" comes from. The movie stopped being shown on TV but became a classic to many youth when it was paired with Pink Floyd's Dark Side of the Moon in place of the dialogue. That's all many young people know it for, it's kinda neat how it fits.
But it's an important classic movie because it taught us to understand that rulers use illusion as a means to power and control. And that if we have courage, heart and a brain we can break free from the illusions spun by wizards and sorcerers. We just have to pull back the curtain to expose the weak, pathetic people in power and their machine of levers, buttons and pulleys that create the illusion. A work doesn't have to be blacklisted to hide it from the people. When just nullifying its important message with frivolity will do.
As to the book, 1984, which is what I meant to tie in to my other reply, it was required reading for me, too, I think 9th grade. We were the class of 1984. The teacher made sure we understood it.
I think it helped enormously that Pink Floyd's "The Wall" was such an incredibly good album, and the videos too.
Together, they combined to make "1984" a very contempory and easy to understand book/idea/meme.
Animal Farm (the full length cartoon) was aired on commercial TV, at least twice a year back then, often times in "children's time slots".

I had been throw in with this group of pcr testing HIV individuals who were set up without symtoms and told to swallow thousands of dollars worth of med's forever. Around 1966 Rod Serling brought back the Twilight Zone in a one hour time slot and in living color (remember that craze).
