To this day (I'm now seventy-five), the David Rose version of "Forbidden Planet" brings a tear, and goose bumps. My childhood home, out in Blue Point (L.I.) was so small that I shared a double bed with my mom until I was a teen, when my grandma's bedroom became vacant (due to her having to go into a nursing home.) Needless to say, my mom's lifelong insomnia caused the nights of my youth to be a blur of dreams, carried along by your dad's voice, and the strings of the Rose orchestra!

On September 6, at 3 pm, I got more angry than I had been in decades, to the point where I was screaming and shouting in order to let it out. It was the rice harvest, the temperature was 36ºC, the combine harvester had broken down in the morning and the repairmen came and replaced two of its six belts. Now the machine's front cutter was malfunctioning and the straw was winding around some component I can't even name and not being transported to where the rice could be threshed. Grrrh.
I had to abandon the harvest and ask my neighbor to cut the remaining 1/3rd of the crop on the next day. I had chosen September 6 as it was an auspicious day, known in Japan as Taian (大安). Any activity that has an appreciable risk of going wrong should only be attempted on Taian. It's like an insurance policy. And I can only conclude that if I had decided to harvest on one of the less lucky days, it would have been worse.
It was not exactly out of character for me to get angry and frustrated with something going wrong that I couldn't fix, but I surprised myself at the amount of screaming I did. So, I was wondering whether we were hit with some "space weather" around that time, disturbing our psychic balance and affecting our sanity.
